“26/11 Is Not Funny” retorted the student after his teacher remarked to him after hearing a Muslim name, he said, oh you are like ‘Kasab’!

In a deeply saddening case from Manipal University in Udipi, a video has gone viral where an engineering student is seen fearlessly standing up against his professor’s politically incorrect and Islamophobic comment calling him by the name of Kasab.
The assistant professor of Karnataka College has been debarred from taking classes after a video went viral where the student can be seen rowing with the professor for him making a demeaning statement towards him. The professor asked the student his name and on hearing a Muslim name, he remarked: “Oh, you are like Kasab!”
Kasab is one of the most dangerous terrorists that India has ever seen. Ajmal Kasab was a Pakistani terrorist who was captured alive after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

In the 45 seconds video clip, the student opposes the remark and retorts that the comment was not amusing and that “26/11 was not funny. Being a Muslim in this country and facing all this every day is not funny, sir. You can’t joke about my religion in such a derogatory manner. It’s not funny sir, it’s not, while the teacher was seen continuously apologizing to him.
The student said that his apology means nothing and can’t change the way the professor processes his thoughts or the way he portrays himself.

The professor says that it was just a spoof and he is just like his kid, to which the student asked if he would talk to his child like that. Would you call him by the name of a terrorist?
After the video went viral, the institute debarred the professor from taking further classes and set up an inquiry committee.
“We would like everyone to know that the institute does not condone this kind of behavior and this isolated incident will be dealt with in accordance with the laid down policy. The Institute prides itself on one of the biggest diversity on campus and is committed to upholding our constitutional values of treating everyone alike, irrespective of their caste, religion, region, gender, etc.,” the institute stated.
After the video took over the internet recently the student issued a statement that “we, as a student community, must let it go as a genuine mistake”. He stated that the derogatory remark ‘Kasab’ made by his professor triggered him, however, after having a conversation with the professor he realized that the professor genuinely meant that apology. He thanked everyone for standing with him through this rough time.
