UP undergoing its seventh and last phase of the assembly election on Monday. Â
Polling began at 7 am and will continue till 6 in the evening. 613 candidates are in the fray in this election with 54 assembly seats including 11 reserved for the scheduled caste and 2 for the scheduled tribe in 9 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Â
The districts that are contesting in this phase are Azamgarh, Mau, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Mirzapur, Bhadohi and Sonbhadra.Â
According to ECI voter’s turnout, Azamgarh witnessed 34.60% voting while, Bhadohi recorded 35.60%, Chandauli 38.45%, Ghazipur 34.15%, Jaunpur 35.80%, Mau 37.08%, Mirzapur 38.05%, Sonbhadra 35.68% and Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of PM Narendra Modi recorded 33.55%. Â
Around 2.06 crore people could exercise their voting rights in the UP-assembly election.Â
The Samajwadi Party accuses fake polling in Jaunpur. The SP in a tweet alleges that in booth no. 108 of Malhani Vidhan Sabha-367 elderly voters are forced to cast their votes. In another tweet, the Samajwadi Party wrote that in Gazipur’s booth no. 246, 247, 248 of 379 Zamania Assembly constituency, the Bahujan Samaj party casting fake votes. The SP urges the election commission to look into this matter and take strict action.Â
Apna Dal (S) working president Ashish Patel has alleged that his election symbol button on the EVM at the Chaktala booth in Madiyahun, (Jaunpur) was damaged after someone applied super strong glue to it. Patel alleges it to be a work by the Samajwadi party and marked it as an act of desperation. Â
In Azamgarh, an elderly man along with his wife who has a fracture in his leg came to the polling booth by pulling a cart. A handicapped woman was also accompanied along with them in the cart.Â
He said, that he has a back problem and his wife is unwell and that is the reason for them to use this cart. He further said that he has no expectations but asked can the state give them Rs 500 or Rs 1000 to cure them.Â
The main parties contesting in this election are the ruling party BJP, the Samajwadi Party, the Congress, the Bahujan Samaj Party and others.Â
Votes will be counted on the 10th of March.
