India is currently celebrating the 400 birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan, an Assamese folk hero. It is being celebrated in New Delhi from 23rd to 25th November 2022.
November 24th is observed as the birthday of Lachit Borphukan.

Who is Lachit Borphukan?
He was a commander in the Ahom kingdom, located in present-day Assam. He is known for his leadership in the 1671 Battle of Saraighat.
He was an excellent military leader who knew the Brahmaputra valley’s geography and nearby hills like the back of his hand. He is remembered for his skills in the Battle of Saraighat which prevented the Mughal forces under RamSingh I from capturing the Ahom Kingdom.
He stands as the symbol of courage, bravery, and intelligence for the country.
Lachit Borphukan was awarded a gold medal for best cadet from the National Defence Academy.
About Ahom Dynasty –
It was established in 1228 in the Brahmaputra valley of Assam and retained its power for around 600 years. It was founded by Chaolung Sukapha. The Ahoms ruled the entire Brahmaputra valley until the province was annexed by British India in 1826 under the treaty of Yandaboo.
The Ahom Empire was dependent on forced laborers called paiks. This dynasty worshiped tribal gods and accepted the Hindu religion. This dynasty was known for its military strategy and strength of infantry, Navy, artillery, cavalry, and spies.
