More than 50 cases of dengue have been registered on the JNU campus by the students claiming the rise of the chronic disease.
Dengue on the rise on campus
Jawaharlal Nehru University’s students have been claiming the rise of dengue cases on the campus. It is said that for the last 10 days there have been over 50 cases till now where students and other people in and near the campus have been affected by the chronic disease.
The Akhil Bhartiya Vidya Parishad (ABVP) has appealed to the administration to look after improving the hygiene of the campus which included the hostel premises and other parts of the university.
As there has been a rapid rise in the dengue and malaria cases on campus the student body has sent a letter to the University’s Vice Chancellor Shantishree Pandit in which he said that the authority is that the demand of the students will be fulfilled regarding the issue and will the administration will start working on it as soon as possible as the cases have increased to more than 50 cases in the last 10 days.
In the letter, it was also mentioned that the effect of rising dengue cases did not only affect the students physically but also mentally it is all due to improper sanitation, unhygienic hostel premises damps on the roofs, water logging in balconies, and hostel premises and. Also, improper drainage which is leading to a breeding spot for mosquitoes.
The fogging of all the hostels on the campus was requested by the student’s association on an urgent basis.
As per the JNU Student Union (JNUSU) it has been claimed that the infrastructure had been a concern to the students and the demand for renovating the campus was made way back due to the same unhygienic reasons but it was dodged by the authority and the senior officials.
