Devusinh Chauhan, Minister of State for Communications said in the Rajya Sabha on Friday that spectrum auctions will be scheduled very soon, and 5G services are expected to start before the end of the year for the next generation of India. Four companies have been allotted spectrum for conducting trials.Â
He also emphasized that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will start on its 4G services this year. The quality of BSNL services will also get better with the launch of the state-owned corporation’s 4G services. In addition, he said that a “great revolution” has taken place in the telecom segment over the past few years. Â
Mobile subscribers in India continuously increased in the year 2020-21. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) report, the number of mobile subscribers in India increased from 1,157.75 million in March 2020 to 1,180.96 million in March 2021.Â
5G adoption in IndiaÂ

Indian telco ready for 5G rolloutÂ
Airtel’s 5G services will be launched in the country within 2-3 months after the spectrum auction, Randeep Sekhon, CTO suggested in an interview. Airtel 5G launch can be expected by August, probably around Independence Day. Airtel 5G real-world speeds are estimated to be about 200-300Mbps and its tariffs could be on par with 4G prepaid plan prices.
On the other side, Reliance Jio the country’s largest telecom company stated that it will be the first Indian telco to introduce 5G service in India. If we analyze globally, there is no big difference between 5G and 4G tariffs. We also look forward to 5G plans in India to be similar to 4G tariffs. While Airtel is not clear about its 5G recharge plans yet.Â
