On Thursday, about 60 percent voter turnout was recorded till 6 pm in election in Uttar Pradesh. In UP, the polling was held in 11districts across 58 assembly constituencies.
Election Commission officials said that the polling closed at 6 pm. However, those who were already in the queues were allowed to vote. There were reports of technical snags in EVMs at some places, but voting was peaceful, they added.
Today, the high-stakes battle for Uttar Pradesh kicked off with voting beginning for phase one of the seven-phase election. Western UP covers the Jat-dominant belt, going to polls.
Thursday’s votes will see a crucial battle play out between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by chief minister Yogi Adityanath in the state and the Samajwadi Party (SP)-Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) association which seeks to take advantage of the combined strength of Akhilesh Yadav and Jayant Choudhary.
It is going to be a test for nine ministers in the Adityanath government: Atul Garg from Ghaziabad, Suresh Rana from Thana Bhawan, Srikant Sharma from Mathura, Kapildev Agarwal from Muzaffarnagar, Anil Sharma from Shikarpur, GS Dharmesh from Agra Cantt Sandeep Singh from Atrauli, Laxminarayan Chaudhary from Chhata, and Dinesh Khatik from Hastinapur.
Elections were held in the 11 districts that saw polls in Shamli, Hapur, Agra, Mathura, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad Bulandshahr, and Aligarh
