76th Independence Day: A significant name in the history of India ā the East India Companyā which tied India in the chain of slavery for almost two centuries is now owned by an Indian. The āEast India Companyā took trading permission from the Mughal Emperor, later by using several tactics established its control in India. Ā
On 15th August 2022 (Monday), India is celebrating its 76th Independence Day as āAzadi Ka Amrit Mahotsavā. India earned its independence in the year 1947 after which India has developed itself as one of the biggest financial powers within the past 75 years.Ā Ā
The financial capability of India can be judged by the fact that the East India Company ruled over India for 200 years, and the owner of that company is an Indian Businessman now.
Company Ruled For 200 Years
The East India Company, almost known by everyone, even those who never went to school, would somehow know about this company as (company Raj). Ā
At the beginning of the 17th century i.e., around 1600 AD this company stepped into India and ruled over India for 200 years. The company ruled over India up to 1857, the academics mention this period as the (Company Raj).
Has Now Become an E-Commerce Company
East India Company was Indiaās first ever enterprise. It was established by Englishmen and was responsible for making India accept its slavery.Ā Ā
During the period of its rule over India, it supervised industries like agriculture, mining, and even railways in India. The fun fact is, the company that ruled India for over 200 years is now owned by a Businessman of Indian origin (Sanjiv Mehta). After buying the company Sanjiv made it an e-commerce platform. As of now, it sells, chocolate, tea, and coffee online. Ā
E.I.C Had Its Army
Its main motive was to promote British imperialism and colonization in India. A very popular British saying at that time wasĀ āThe British sun never setsā. East India Company was a major tool to establish the British empire in India. Ā
It was originally made for trading purposes, but it has some special powers like the power to fight a war. British gave this right to the company for the sake of protecting its profit and trading benefits. Thus, the company had a powerful army as well.
Competition from Spain and Portugal
During the 1600s, Spain and Portugal were competing for imperialism and trade. Britain and France were late to step in this but quickly gained dominance over it.
After the Portugal sailor, Vasco da Gama came to India, there were some significant changes in Europe. Vasco da Gama took with him tons of Indian spices. Indian spices were a unique thing for Europeans.
Through these spices, Vasco da Gama earned a huge property. Later these Indian spices became very popular all over Europe. The completeness of India also inspired the Europeans to gain control over India.
East India Company did this job for the sake of Britain.
