After excelling at the Asia Cup 2022, former Indian captain Virat Kohli rose 14 ranks to take the 15th spot in the most recent ICC T20 hitter rankings.
Former India captain Virat Kohli overcame a 1,020-day drought by scoring his 71st international century against Afghanistan in India’s final Super 4 match of the Asia Cup 2022. Kohli has jumped 14 places to 15th after smashing a match-winning 122 not out off 61 deliveries.
In the T20I rankings before the Asia Cup, Kohli had slipped to position 33, but he came back into form in the multi-nation competition, slamming 276 runs in five games to go up to position 15 in the most recent rankings.
Interestingly, Kohli is the third-best Indian player after Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja in the ICC T20 all-rounders rating.
The 33-year-old had a difficult 2022 thus far since his runs had not been pouring out of his bat as effortlessly as they have in the past. Kohli’s best performance came during India’s July tour of England when he scored 20 runs.
After that, he decided to take a month off. He subsequently admitted in an interview that this was the first time in his life that he went a whole month without touching a bat.
Virat immediately returned for the Asia Cup opening against Pakistan, refreshed and refueled. He played a quick 35-run innings in the first game, followed by back-to-back fifty-plus scores against Pakistan and Hong Kong.
The Delhi-born batsman eventually brought up his much anticipated 71st international century, ending an almost three-year wait, finishing off an outstanding Asia Cup tournament on a high after failing to open his account against Sri Lanka.
Suryakumar Yadav, who turns 32 on Wednesday (September 14), remains in fourth place in the T20I rankings, trailing Pakistan batsman Mohammad Rizwan, while skipper Babar Azam has dropped to third place following a terrible Asia Cup 2022 with the bat.
Aiden Markram of South Africa has ascended to the second position to replace Babar.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a seam bowler for Team India, moved up to position seven thanks to his impressive five-for-four performance in the same game.
KL Rahul rose from 30th to 23rd place. Significant advancements have been achieved by the spinners Ravichandran Ashwin (up nine spots to 41st) and Axar Patel (up 14 spots to 57th).
In comparison, Afghanistan batsman Ibrahim Zadran has climbed 55 spots to 63rd following his unbroken 50 against India.
Chanuka Rajapaksa and Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka earned significant advancements in the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings after leading their team to a historic victory against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022 final on Sunday in Dubai.
Rajapaksa rose 34 spots to a career-high 34th rank with his scorching 71 off 45 deliveries with six fours and three sixes, which earned him the Player of the Match title. In earlier matches of the tournament played over the last week, Rajapaksa amassed scores of 25 not out against India and 24 against Pakistan.
After a strong all-around performance in the final that saw him smash a 21-ball 36 and back it up with a late triple-strike with his leg-spin bowling, all-rounder Hasaranga, a previous top-ranked bowler, has advanced in all three lists.
He has climbed three spots to sixth place after a three-wicket performance against Pakistan two days prior. Additionally, he has moved up 28 spots to 152nd among hitters and seven spots to fourth among all-around.
Haris Rauf, a fast bowler for Pakistan, is now ranked 25th after taking three for 29 in the final and two wickets in each of the previous two games. According to the most recent weekly report, Mohammad Nawaz has moved up seven spots to position 34 while Mohammad Hasnain has climbed 14 spots to position 96.
After scoring 61 and 105 respectively in the second and third matches between Australia and New Zealand, Steve Smith has climbed 13 spots to position 10 in the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings, while Alex Carey has climbed two spots to rank 20.
The bowlers’ ranking has seen advancements for Adam Zampa (up three spots to 15th) and Mitchell Starc (up three spots to ninth).
Player of the Match Ollie Robinson has moved up 11 spots to position 15 in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings, which takes into account performances in the third England-South Africa Test at The Oval. Robinson finished the match with seven wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings.
The hitters who have improved their ranks are Ollie Pope (up 17 spots to 29th) and Zak Crawley (up 16 spots to 48th), while Ben Stokes has moved up three spots to 35th on the same list. You can see Also ICC T20 Rankings: Babur Azam on top; Suryakumar Yadav retains 2nd position
