Following India’s victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022 on August 28, a fight broke out in Melton Road, Belgrave, resulting in at least 27 arrests, according to the Leicester Mercury, a UK-based newspaper, and the ANI news agency.
As a result of the incident, the Leicestershire Police promised to continue calling for dialogue and tranquilly with the assistance of community leaders.
While calling for calm, the police instructed everyone to return home and requested that only verified, accurate information be shared.
In a video message posted to his Twitter account, Leicestershire Police Temporary Chief Constable Rob Nixon responded to Saturday night’s reported clash “We have received multiple reports of a disturbance on the streets of Leicester tonight, September 17. We have deployed officers, we are assuming control of the situation, more officers are en route, and dispersal and search powers have been authorized. Please refrain from involvement. We are requesting calm.”
