Infinity Ward recently announced the sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Their recent tweet confirms the sequel’s beta version is now open for Xbox and PC players. Some new maps and game modes have also been added to the new version.
Call of Duty has been a hugely popular game worldwide. The first edition of the game came out in 2003 and was a huge success. Every other edition of the game since then has been building on the hype around the world.
Activision and Infinity Ward are back again with a sequel to their 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game. The full launch of the game is scheduled on October 28 and promises to be full of breathtaking action.
Meanwhile, Infinity Ward has already been testing the new version of the game. After a successful first weekend of the beta testing phase, Infinity Ward has announced that the beta version of the game will be opened to a wider game base.
This means that the beta version won’t just be limited to PlayStation users. Xbox and PC users will also be able to try their hands on the new game’s beta version before the actual launch of the full game.
The announcement was made on the official Twitter handle of Call of Duty. The tweet said, “The #MWII Beta opens TOMORROW for EVERYONE.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has new game modes and maps
Infinity Ward has also decided to give a pleasant surprise to Call of Duty’s fans by increasing the game modes to eight. There are also six maps included in the new version for the users to try.
The new game modes are Team Deathmatch, Domination, Prisoner Rescue, Knockout, Search and Destroy, Invasion, Hardpoint, and Ground War.
Deathmatch is a group of players divided into two teams where the objective is to kill players of the opposite team. The team that succeeds in reaching the score limit or has the most points when the timer runs out wins the match.
In Domination, the objective is to gather points by taking control of areas. In Prisoner Hostage, one team tries to rescue the hostages while the other tries to capture them.
Knockout is a new game mode where two teams of six players each go against each other to gain control over a package. In Search and Destroy mode, you either destroy the objective using a bomb or kill all the enemy players.
Invasion is a massive 20 vs 20 match mode with AI bots. A player has to reach a certain number of points by killing the bots as well as the players. In Hardpoint, a moving objective called Hardpoint must be captured and defended to earn points.
In Ground War, objectives need to be captured and held, with teams of 32 going against each other.
The new maps included are Farm 18, Valderas Museum, Mercado Las Armas, Breenbergh Hotel, Sarif Bay, and Sa’id. The last two maps, Sarif Bay and Sa’id, will be ground war only.
New in-game features
There will also be some new movement features in the new edition. Swimming and diving will be possible again. Players will also be able to fight underwater. The beloved Dolphin Dive will return as well.
Hanging from ledges will also be possible now. The Tac Sprint will be back, but shooting while sliding won’t be possible.
According to leaks, in the campaign mode, players will be able to interact and give instructions to their companions, and the decisions they make will affect the story of the campaign.
Statement from Activision
Activision explains: “No matter when or how you’re accessing the Open Beta1, get ready: You’re able to earn the biggest collection of free Beta rewards ever in Call of Duty history!”
“A total of ten different reward items — including two Weapon Blueprints and an Operator Skin — can be earned throughout one or both Beta Weekends. These items can be equipped in the Beta as soon as you unlock them, and they are only available to unlock during the Beta itself. Don’t miss out!”
“These special Beta rewards, available only if you earn them during the Open Beta, then become available at the launch of Modern Warfare II on October 28.”
Unlike the initial beta period, this time Xbox Gold subscription isn’t required to enjoy the beta version as it is open for everyone.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is set to release globally on October 28, 2022, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
