The two luxury brands have successfully displayed the true power of legacy and heritage this week in Paris Fashion Week for their spring/summer 2024 collection.
The creator of the iconic stiletto heel, Roger Vivier, won Fashion Week this season with its focus on quality craftsmanship and the heritage of a brand.
The brand took over the historical building of the Fondation Simone and Cino Del Duca and turned it into ‘La Maison Vivier.’
A visual treat for the attendees of the event, creative director Gherardo Felloni reportedly said in an interview, “it was time for the house to do the talking.”
Fashion week’s most heritage-centric show this year, the show had artisans, installations, and even live performers.
The French brand greeted the guests at the event with a human-size wooden shoe, at the entrance, paying tribute to the 1987 retrospective at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
The show was a homage to the founder, Monsieur Vivier, and his legacy of luxury shoe-making craftsmanship. Vivier in his time had several noteworthy clients, he even designed Queen Elizabeth’s shoes in 1953 for her coronation.
Fashion Week Immersive Experience
The entire two floors of the building and the garden were dedicated to the display of Roger Vivier shoes with the question “ What would Roger Vivier do?’ in the minds of the design team to deliver an immersive Fashion Week experience.
The event had artisans showcasing their skills and craftsmanship with embroiderers, leather cutters, and crystal setters and thus demonstrating how Roger Vivier shoes are made. Models in white sat in the garden, reading amongst the flowers.
Iconic show designs from the archive were displayed to serve as a reminder that the brand’s foundations were firmly built on heritage and craftsmanship. These designs were, ‘King of the Heel’, ‘Belle Vivier’, ‘I Love Vivier’, ‘Collages’, ‘Virgule’, ‘Embroideries’, and ‘Jewel heel’.
Shoes were displayed in innovative ways like in the heart room where shoes were presented inside heart-shaped cavities in the wall.
Felloni explained the design concept of the show, “This season, I focused on the icons of the house and the savoir-faire and craftsmanship. I showed a craftsperson once before, and people were really fascinated, so you will see in each room artisans demonstrating how the shoes and bags are made.”
The highlight this season though is a satin bow that Felloni kept seeing while browsing through the brand’s archives.
The shoe of the season thus is the ‘Virgule Flowers Bow Slingback.’ With the brand’s iconic curved comma heel, the embroidered paillettes, gemstone flowers, and the bow, all in electric acid yellow colour, the shoe is a reinterpretation of the original Roger Vivier created in 1963.
Celebrities like Justin Biber and his wife Hailey Bieber were also spotted at the event, enjoying the Fashion Week.
