On Monday, Georgia Dunn, Dan Christian’s pregnant partner, was harassed on Instagram after the RCB player had a disastrous night with the ball against KKR in the Eliminator.
Kolkata Knight Riders ruined Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli’s goal of winning his maiden IPL crown on Monday, defeating RCB by four wickets in a last-over drama to advance to Qualifier 2.
Chasing a low-scoring total of 139, the match at the Sharjah Cricket Ground swung back and forth until the final over on Monday night.
While the Men in Red did tighten their grip in the last overs, it was perhaps Australian cricketer Dan Christian’s over that proved costly for them and changed the momentum in KKR’s favor.
In the low-scoring match, Sunil Narine, who finished with 4 for 21 (4 overs) and three sixes in Christian’s over, gave up 29 runs off 1.4 overs.
The ugly turn:
The defeat was devastating, especially for Kohli fans, who were heartbroken to see their club go trophy-less. With Kohli’s departure as RCB captain thrown in, the disappointment quickly turned to wrath.
It took an ugly turn when the toxic supporters attacked Christian’s pregnant partner on her Instagram page.
The abuse went on to such an extent that Christian had to intervene, and in an Instagram story, Christian slammed the fans’ bad behavior and requested them to keep his wife out of it.
Subsequently, they removed the abusive remarks, and the comments on the post were made limited. Christian wrote on Instagram that to take a look at the comments on his partner’s Instagram post.
He stated that he didn’t have an excellent game night and accepted that it was part of it. But he requested not to bring her partner into it.
Glenn Maxwell, who was outraged by the fans’ reaction and described it as “absolutely awful,” also slammed the social media trolls.
However, he did not fail to thank the loyal fans who supported the club through thick and thin.
Maxwell also didn’t have the best of outings in the Eliminator, and the Victorian scored 15 at less than a run-a-ball and couldn’t pick up a wicket in the bowled three overs.
In support of Dan Christian:
Following the story, several supporters responded to his wife’s page and apologized, saying they were humiliated by their fellow countrymen’s behavior.
Several of them advised her to ignore the negative remarks and instead focus on spreading positive. RCB has now voiced their full support for the player, stating that they are 100% behind him.
The franchise said it wouldn’t tolerate online abuse against the players, families, and loved ones. “We’re completely behind you, @danchristian54.” “We will not allow online harassment directed towards athletes, their families, or their loved ones,” RCB said in a statement.
The Kolkata Knight Riders shared a video of wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik discussing social media bullying.
“I believe that social media must be a gentler place at times. I believe that individuals are unaware of the significance of what they say, whether through memes, videos, or simply the usage of words. It’s a spur-of-the-moment thing for them, instinctively putting out there what they feel, “he stated.
The video came with the following message: “Say no to hate-mongering. Cricketers are much too frequently subjected to online harassment. It’s past time for us to take a firm stance against it. Any sport includes both wins and losses. @RCBTweets @danchristian54 @Gmaxi 32, we’re here for you. We’ve also been there.”
Match highlights:
Sunil Narine, the KKR mystery spinner, demonstrated why he is regarded highly by spinning a web around the RCB batters in the Eliminator on Monday.
The Big Three – Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Glenn Maxwell – were all dismissed by the West Indians, limiting RCB to 138 runs.
The run chase was becoming more complex, and it appeared that Bangalore had the upper hand for a time.
However, Narine dashed RCB’s hopes as he hit Christian for three boundaries in his first three balls, becoming the first batsman in IPL history.
KKR captain Eoin Morgan and Shakib Al Hasan eventually showed great maturity to clinch the run chase in the last over.
KKR moved to Qualifier 2 and won against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Wednesday. The team will now face CSK in the IPL 2021 Final on October 15 in Dubai.
