Britain’s government is exploring the option of implementing national electricity rationing in response to a growing risk of blackouts this winter.
The Guardian reports that a first-time campaign to encourage the public to limit their energy use could start as early as next week. The move comes at a time when both National Grid, which operates the national power infrastructure, and UK Power Networks, which looks after London’s power supplies, are warning that there is an increasing chance of power shortages this winter.

There are worries about supplies and high costs during the following year, despite the fact that European countries have made considerable progress in filling up gas storage tanks and lowering usage.  “We have been warning since the start of this year that there is a 75% chance of blackouts this winter, and we are now going into it with our eyes open. People will have to adjust their behavior if we are going to avoid blackouts. “
