Over 300 establishments, including restaurants, hotels, online food delivery services, medicines, and other essential commodities may be able to operate in Delhi 24×7, said some officials.Â
Delhi LG VK Saxena has approved some exemptions under the Delhi Shops and Establishments Act of 1954 for over 314 businesses. Some of these applications were pending since 2016.Â
No reaction was given from the side of the labor department, which comes under the purview of the Delhi government. There is also concern regarding the law and order situation in particular and an answer from the police is not yet present.Â
There was also an issue noticed in the delay of approval of such proposals flagged by the LG, which is said to undermine the confidence of the business community and hurt the Ease of doing business.Â
The LG has also directed the Labour Department to ensure that such delays do not occur in the future, a mechanism be developed for transparent and effective monitoring, reasons for pendency be ascertained, responsibility be fixed and suitable action be taken against the erring officials, the officials added.
