PM Modi’s statement arrived after Interpol denied issuing a Red Corner notice against Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that there is no safe place for the corrupt, terrorists, drug cartels, poaching gangs, or organized crime, Interpol can help us by speeding up the process of issuing Red Corner notices against criminals.
“These crimes are against humanity. Furthermore, these crimes not only harm our present generation but there will be a huge impact on coming generations. Our police and law enforcement agencies need to improve their systems. That will help in cooperation. Interpol can also help by speeding up Red Corner Notices against offenders,” Narender Modi said at the inaugural session of Interpol’s 90th General Assembly.
He said that a secure world is our shared responsibility. When the forces of good cooperate, then the forces of crime cannot operate.
Interpol three-day session is organized at Pragati Maidan
A three-day session is organized at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. There will be 195 representatives from different countries. In this session strategies for international cooperation on terrorism, drug trafficking, international crime syndicates, and child sex abuse offenses will be discussed.
Recently, Interpol has refused to issue a Red Notice against Khalistani separatist Gurpantwant Singh Pannun. The Canada-based chief of the banned Sikhs For Justice is wanted in several cases of terrorism registered by the National Investigation Agency(NIA).
Interpol has rejected India’s request to issue a Red Corner notice by stating that the Indian authorities have failed to provide sufficient information in the case.
In this event, countries like Canada and Pakistan were also present.
In the inaugural speech, the Prime Minister Narender Modi said that despite all the past successes, today, he wants to remind all that there are many harmful issues that the world is facing right now, like terrorism, drug trafficking, poaching, corruption. Further he added, to deal with all these issues is not only the responsibility of an individual country, but a responsibility of all countries to fight against these issues collectively. Now, it’s time to come together to defeat these threats.
He further continued that India has been fighting with terrorism for several decades. Also, spoke on going after the corrupt and called corruption a “dangerous threat”.
“These crimes like corruption and financial crimes have harmed the welfare of the citizens of many countries. The corrupt find a way to park the proceeds of crime in different parts of the world. This one is also a major source of the terror funding,” PM Modi said.
“Illegal drugs are destroying young people’s lives. These illegal drugs, human trafficking, weakening democracies to the sale of illegal arms, this all-dirty money funds many destructive enterprises. Yes, I know there are many legal and procedural frameworks to deal with them, but there is a need for the global community to work together and faster to tackle these problems,” he said.
PM Modi said that a safe and secure world is a shared responsibility. Now it’s no longer left that we fought terrorism in physical space. It is now spreading its presence through online fanaticism and cyber threats. At the click of a button, an attack can be executed anywhere in the world, and that will bring the system to their knees. Each nation is working on its own strategies against them. But now it’s not sufficient to work within our borders to fight against all these threats.
“We need to develop our international strategies. We should improve the early detection and warning systems, protecting transportation services, security for communication infrastructure, security for critical infrastructure, technical and technological assistance, intelligence exchange, many of these things, we need to take them to the next level,” he added.
PM Modi praised Indian democracy
Praising the virtues of India’s democracy and its diversity, PM Modi said that the Indian police have a tough task of implementing more than 900 national and around 10,000 state laws.
Also, added that Indian festivals, such as the Kumbh Mela and many other festivals, attract millions of pilgrims where police have to maintain order. With all this, our police forces work while respecting diversity and following the Constitution to protect the rights of our people. The Indian police not only protect the people but also serve our democracy.
“Let’s have an example of India’s free, fair and massive elections. Elections in India involve arrangements for around 900 million electors. This is equal to the population of the North and South American continents taken together. About 2.3 million police personnel are deployed to help in the elections to be held peacefully.” India has maintained its diversity and democracy. That’s why India is a case study for the world, PM Modi said.
Interpol President Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi of UAE
Interpol President Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi of the UAE was also present there. He said Interpol would work towards increasing the cooperation between the member countries. Interpol would also ensure that no member will become too big or too small. They will bring more transparency in its functions.
Also, later added that Interpol must not be politicized. By remaining neutral and with more transparency, we will strengthen our unity.
