LGBT activist got detained while he was doing a one-man protest.
The protest staged by British LGBT rights campaigner Peter Tatchell was stopped by Qatari officials and he got arrested for it.
Mr. Peter Tatchell said that he was arrested and detained just after his one man protest against the country’s treatment towards LGBT People.
He said that he was then released after getting detained and now he is heading back to the United Kingdom.
But the Qatari government denied the allegation and said it was “completely false”.
Mr Tatchell said “ You can call it arrest or detention but we were not free to move”. He expressed it before leaving qatar.
On BBC Radio 4’s programme, he said that they were told to leave the country as soon as convenient and also they said that it will be for his own good.

Peter Tatchell, originally from Australia, is a British human rights campaigner. He is best known for being a social worker and a LGBT activist. In australia, Mr. Tatchell was elected as secretary of the school’s student representative council; he started his political career from this point.
Tatchell moved to London in 1971 to avoid conscription into the Australian army. He became leading member of gay liberation front (GLF).He opened up being gay in 1969.
In 1972, he helped in Britain’s first gay pride march.
In 2020, he collaborated with Martin Firrell to mark the 50th anniversary of GLF.
He fights for gay rights and has participated in LGBT activist movement.
He took a similar action in the 2018 world cup in Russia, being said that it had been the first public LGBT rights protest to take place in the Gulf State.
There is a video footage showing qatari official approaching Mr. Tatchell posted by Peter Tatchell himself.
Mr. Peter was standing outside the national museum of qatar with a placard reading “qatar arrests, jails,subjects LGBTs conversion”.He was wearing a white shirt which had a hashtag writing on it. The #qatarantigay was written on the placard too.
Some officers approached him and folded his placard.They took a picture of Tatchel’s passport.
Mr. Peter said in an interview that he was “surrounded and interrogated” by 9 officers.The person who was filming the event was also arrested.
The Qatar government said that the rumours were completely false. They said there were no arrests.
“I did this protest to highlight Qatar’s abuse of LGBT, women’s and migrant workers’ rights. I was standing in solidarity with brave Qatari human rights defenders who cannot make their voices heard because of the risk of arrest, jail and torture. I am heading back to the airport with my colleague now,” he said in a statement.
In qatar, same sex activity is illegal and there are no rights and protection for LGBT People.
Right before the world cup, many fans are cancelling Qatar for poor treatment of LGBT people and also migrant people.
