According to the head of Diabetes, UK, it’s clear that the probability of getting type 2 diabetes is higher among younger people.
Alarming increase of Type 2 Diabetes
There is an “alarming acceleration” in the number of people affected by type 2 diabetes under the age of 40. According to the WHO, as there are more obese youngsters in the UK, it ranks worst among other European countries.
As a close connection exists between type 2 diabetes and obesity, the risk level is increased by seven times. There is a significant increase in the jump in levels from 2016–17 to 2020–22 among youngsters from 1,20,000 to 1,48,000, respectively. If this level persists, by the end of 2027, about 2,00,000 people would be affected. “This report shows the serious health risks associated with people under 40 years of age. This will also lead to several risks, such as affecting the genes, heart attacks, etc., states Mr. Chris Askew, the chief executive of Diabetes UK.
The UK government insists people under 40 check their type 2 diabetes levels using a free online tool.
