Arshdeep Singh is undoubtedly the best of his type, India has had since Ashish Nehra because of his various unique abilities. Abilities to swing the ball both ways, spear in toe-crushers, slam the helmets, and bowl in power-play and at death.
Arshdeep Singh’s capacity to recover was once again tested when he traced his run-up to bowl the 12th over of Bangladesh’s innings. He had been splattered for three fours by Litton Das in his opening over of the evening. Arshdeep, however, is not constructed of a fragile material. He returned triumphantly to perform yet another star act, as though the bitter memories of the earlier defeat had been washed away in the Adelaide downpour.
The second ball hit a hard length. Afif Hossain slogged but was beaten by the bounce and toe-ended a catch to Suryakumar Yadav. He’d cheer. When his bouncer whistled past Shakib Al Hasan, he grinned wickedly. The next ball, Shakib’s hoick went to Deepak Hooda. Two wickets and Arshdeep again turned the match. Hence, his worth showed brightly during the match.
Journey of this World Cup till now-
During the awful stuff he endured after the second Asia Cup game against Pakistan, this has been a great World Cup for him. He’s tied with Sam Curran for most Super 12 wickets with nine. His night’s work wasn’t done. His sternness was tested. His next over yielded 12 runs, and he had to defend 20 in the last. Probably enough cushion. Stranger things have happened in sports. Nurul Hasan smashed a six on the second ball. He needed another comeback. Dot, double, he was nearly through. Nurul hit a four-run homer. Bangladesh needed 6 to win. The whole stadium started nail-bitingly. Arshdeep remained calm.
Turning the tables-
When India required him, he raised his hand and delivered. In Perth, while defending 134, he took two wickets in his opening over to give India a foothold. If hard lengths were effective for him in Adelaide, full lengths caused chaos in Perth. His proficiency with lengths of varying dimensions is outstanding. The ball that smashed into Rilee Rossouw’s thigh after he had just scored a century was a beautiful, inwardly bending rocket.
He has a pattern of producing outstanding works. For example, Babar Azam’s dismissal with his first-ever World Cup delivery. It was an ideal left-handed pitcher’s oncoming pitch to the right-handed batter. The ball angled away, rested on the middle stump, and then swung back in to beat his leg-side swipe.
New ball Magic from Arshdeep-
When he got his maiden India cap in this style in July, his role was clear. He was a death overs specialist with an economy of just over eight (better than Jasprit Bumrah) and a balls/boundary rate of just over 8.5 in IPL 2022. India’s death over bowling may be fierce with him and Bumrah bowling together. Arshdeep ensured India wouldn’t miss Bumrah as much as they expected. But with the new ball late. 58% of his dismissals were in the death overs before the World Cup. He led the 2021 IPL death-over economy.
Arshdeep’s short deliveries, which he keeps in line with the batter’s body, make him equally as dangerous as a fast bowler despite his lack of speed. India may have discovered their best left-arm bowler since Ashish Nehra.
