The FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week kicked off with a bang this year, showcasing some of the most stunning collections and designs from top designers in the industry. The event saw a perfect blend of boundary-pushing statements, excellent craftsmanship, and reinvented classics that took over the runways. While designers amped up the shimmer and shine game, Bollywood celebrities were also seen walking the ramp, bringing glamour and glitz to the event.
The first day of the fashion week was dedicated to Sustainable Fashion, where Gennext 2024 winners KoAi, Hiro, and Rudraksh Dwivedi showcased their collections. KoAi’s collection titled Coalescence was inspired by Coppice, with unique prints designed by visualizing Coppice integrating their classic printing floral motifs. The collection featured an amalgamation of drapes and pleats, with silhouettes made of heavy cotton silk, mushroom twill, poplin cotton, and chiffon that complemented the aesthetics. Hiro’s collection drew inspiration from a post-apocalyptic world and was created through ruching and smocking techniques with dying techniques like tie-dye and stone washing. Inspired by eco-brutalism, Rudraksh Dwivedi’s collection had geometric line work integrated into handcrafted raw textures with an aesthetic juxtaposition.
The second day of the event featured a showcase of the 80s disco dance of Bollywood. Actor Sonakshi Sinha and Anshula Kapoor turned showstoppers for Itrh by Ridhi Bansal. The brand’s philosophy was reflected in the title-Dancing Queen-which drew inspiration from music, specifically Disco.
On the third day of Lakme Fashion Week X FDCI, the opening was splendid, with Zeenat Aman, a legendary Bollywood diva, gracing the ramp. She walked as the showstopper for designer Shahin Mannan and looked stunning with her silver hair. Zeenat Aman, who is a veteran actress, served as the muse for the designer. The actress grabbed eyeballs with her return to the ramp and walked with confidence.
Sushmita Sen, who recently suffered a heart attack, also walked the ramp on the third day as the showstopper for Anushree Reddy’s classic collection Ahilya. She walked the ramp wearing a sparkling lemon lehenga with silver and zardozi motifs.
The fashion week also saw actor Shobhita Dhulipala turn muse for designer Tarun Tahiliani, showcasing a stunning collection of sheer drapes, stunning colour palettes, and the finesse of feminine silhouettes. Sobhita entered in a red ensemble, a winning look for a showstopper—leaving everyone in awe.
On the final day of the fashion week, Karisma Kapoor walked the ramp for Ranna Gill, wearing a breezy side-slit maxi dress with intricate 3D floral embroidery and motifs paired with a chic blazer from Ranna’s Casa dei Fiori collection.
The week came to an end with the rumoured couple Ananya Panday and Aditya Roy Kapur turning showstoppers for Manish Malhotra. The two young stars burned the ramp with their gorgeous looks and chemistry, with Ananya dressed in a black printed bodycon gown with a cape-like jacket and Aditya looking handsome in a black suit with some detailing.
Celebrities took over moments.
Apart from the stunning collections and designs, the event also saw some incredible moments when celebrities took over to exude ‘self-love’ while giving out a reminder to all about embracing their bodies and letting individualities radiate.
