According to a report by the World terrorism index, india is worst hit by terrorism centered around the border areas. It has also been pointed out that most of the Indian citizens are living out of the country’s border areas, so there is less threat to public safety.
India is among the 25 worst hit by terrorism, but also at 56th position among 120 countries surveyed with most people calling terrorism the biggest threat to public safety.
The index is released by Sydney-based think tank “Institute for economics and peace”.
Afghanistan is on the top of the index with a GTI score of 8.822,while india has got a 7.175 Global terrorism index score.
The score is calculated taking in cognisance deaths, attacks, injuries over 5 years period.
It has kept India at the 13th spot in the category of countries worst hit by terrorism .
12% of south Asian respondents rated war and terrorism as the top concern to their public safety, which is the highest compared to other regions.
While only 0.28% respondents of central America rated it as the top concern for public safety, the lowest.
It has listed the Communist Party of India (Maoist) as the 12th deadliest terror group in 2022, ahead of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (13th) and Lashkare- taiba(10th).
It has caused the death of 39, 30 injuries and involved in 61 attacks last year.
Davood Ibrahim’s D company is said to have played a major role in spreading terrorism in India. It is involved in drug trafficking, arms trade, precious metals, prostitution, counterfeiting and extortion.
It has had collaborated with Al-Qaeda in Kashmir.
It was also involved with the 1993 Mumbai attacks which had killed near about 257 people, making it one of the tragic incident in the Indian history.
Deaths from terrorism are reported to have fallen by 5% to 6707 in 2022.
They were 38% lower than at their peak in 2015.
Afghanistan for the 4th consecutive year has topped the index, however the attacks and deaths have fallen by 75% and 58%.
Pakistan is at the 10th position. It is most affected by terrorism in 2022, wherein 643 deaths were reported in 2022, a 120% increase from 292 deaths in 2021.
The separatist (Balochistan liberation army) was majorly responsible for deaths in Pakistan, a nine fold rise from the prior year, making it the fastest growing terror group in the world.
The west has witnessed a fall in the terror attacks since 2017.
Pakistan has overtaken Afghanistan as the country with the most terrorist attacks and deaths in south Asia.
The number of deaths in Pakistan represented the largest year on year-rise in the last decade.
55% terror-related victims were military personnel.
BLA is responsible for 36% of terror-related deaths in the country and has overtaken Tahreeke-Taliban called Pakistani Taliban. It’s each attack kills 7.7 people compared to 1.5 people in 2021.
BLA is fighting against the Pakistani forces for the liberation of Balochistan bordering Afghanistan and Iran.
While Tahreeke Taliban is intending to establish Pakistan as an Islamic nation.
The report has said that most of the terror-related activities in Pakistan have happened on Pakistan -Afghanistan border, where 63% of attacks and 74% of deaths have been reported.
