UP Warriorz clashed with Mumbai Indians today at DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai. UP Warriorz Skipper Alyssa Healy won the toss and opted to bowl first. She cited that the team performs better while chasing. They played with a single change, Parshvi Chopra got in playing 11 in place of Shweta Sehrawat. Mumbai Indians Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur joked about getting used to losing the toss. The playing 11 remained unchanged for MI. The spinners played the most crucial role and their determination paid off really well. Sophie Ecclestone’s spell was the icing on the cake. Sophie took 3 wickets in her spell of 4 overs and gave only 15 runs with an economy rate of 3.75, which shows how great of a bowler she is. While Mumbai was struggling on the pitch, Hayley was the only support that kept MI’s boat afloat. She played an inning of 35 runs in 30 balls with a strike rate of 116.66, and Skipper Harman tried to provide support to Hayley but got out with just 25 runs in 22 balls with a strike rate of 113.63. Issy Wong tried to support her for a while before getting run out, she made a greater impact because she only used 19 balls to get 32 runs with a strike rate of 168.42.

The second innings of the match became more tricky than expected. MI tried to make a comeback, and Hayley started drawing the first blood for the MI in her first over during powerplay, taking up Devika Vidya. Amelia Kerr came and conquered like a queen and took 2 very important wickets for MI. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Issy Wong took 1 wicket each respectively. Tahlia McGrath played an exceptional knock of 38 runs in 25 balls with a strike rate of 152.00, and Grace Harris showed her destructive side too, she made 39 runs from 28 balls with a strike rate of 139.28. The match went till the last ball. The undefeated Mumbai Indians have been defeated today by UP Warriorz with 5 wickets remaining.
The Mumbai Indians have secured their place for the upcoming playoffs and were looking to secure its place at the top of the table, and in doing so they would have also ensured a direct route into the finals. But today’s low-scoring thriller match shattered the dreams of MI of getting the Q in front of their name. On the other hand, UP Warriorz made a comeback after their previous two consecutive losses. They would be hoping to keep the winning momentum going.
