On Wednesday 22 March, AAP, the Delhi government reached the Delhi assembly to present the budget 2024-24. The following budget was presented by Kailash Gahlot. After approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Kejriwal on Tuesday penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting to let the national capital present the budget 2024-24. The Ministry of Home Affairs asked the city government to re-submit the budget over the clarification for the allocation of funds for infrastructure and advertisement. The budget is to be approved by the President through the Union Home Ministry.
The theme set by the national capital for the budget 2024-24 for the financial year is ‘Saaf sundar aur Adhunik Dilli’ (‘Clean, beautiful and modern Delhi’) intending to promote Infrastructure, Sanitation, and Transport as their goal with also an emphasis on health and education presented a ₹78,800 crores budget.

The Budget for the year 2024-24 was Kailash Gahlot’s first budget as Delhi’s finance minister. In his budget speech, he said, ‘I would have been happier if Manish Sisodia presented this budget who is like my elder brother. The budget is an expression of expectations and aspirations of the people,”.
In the budget Finance Minister, Kailash Gahlot addresses the plans for the coming year. Under education, the amount decided was ₹16,500 crores, ₹ 200 crore increase in the last 10 years.
For 350 Delhi government schools educational equipment like computers and tablets will be provided to children, 20 computers to each school which will be used by the children, and tablets by faculty.
For the sanitation budget, they focused on the clean Yamuna garbage mountains and made a 6-point action plan to solve the problem and said all 3 mountains will be removed by the end of 2 years.
890 million gallons of sewage a day will be treated till March 2024. There is a huge increase of 373 MGD in 2015, said the finance minister.
The government has planned to set up a real-time pollution data lab in every district, for monitoring and gathering pollution data.
Under the health measures introduced in the budget by Kailash Gahlot, he mentioned an increase in Aam Aadmi Mohalla clinics from 256 to 450 for free diagnostic tests.
Introducing 9 new hospital plans, 4 to be operational this year the count has increased from 14,000 to 30,000.
The finance ministry also said that Mohalla clinics are the backbone of Delhi’s primary health care system. The data shows that just in the last 4 months, 42,000 women visited Mohalla clinics. So they plan to build 100 similar clinics throughout the city.
There is also a marginal decrease from ₹9,769 to ₹9,742 from last year in the allocated amount to the health sector.
26 flyovers, bridge, underpasses, and 3 double-decker flyovers in a budget of ₹320 crores to be constructed, said the finance minister on Wednesday.
₹8241 crores to provide financial assistance to local bodies, said Kailash Gahlot.
1000 RO plants in JJ clusters to be constructed in the unauthorized colonies water deficient area to increase drinking water supply.
25% of electricity demand will be met by solar energy by 2025 to boost green energy to power Delhi.
In the budget, the government took initiative to train 2 lakh construction workers under skill development programs.
These are some of the major allocations of the amount under the budget. The budget reflects the goal of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s aim to transfer Delhi into a clean, beautiful, and modern city.
