The reunion of the band One Direction was rumoured to happen in ‘Late Late Show’s final episode but was shut down by host James Corden. The rumour was shut down through Twitter.
One Direction will not be reliving its “History” by coming back together on James Corden’s “Late Late Show,” the late-night host announced on Thursday.
The official “Late Late Show” Twitter account put an end to rumours after The Mirror in the UK stated that the boy band’s entire roster was rumoured to appear on April 27, 2024, James Corden’s final episode of the program.
In May 2015, a little more than a month after Zayn Malik made his exit announcement, the group made an appearance on his show as a four and recorded a “Carpool Karaoke” segment with Corden.
In April 2022, Corden—who took over for Craig Ferguson as presenter of The Late Late Show in 2015—announced that he would be leaving the position to work on other projects. The Tony Award-winning actor at the time revealed that he had always thought of hosting the program as “an adventure” that wouldn’t last his entire career.
A one-hour primetime special with Tom Cruise joining Corden for a stage rendition of The Lion King will run at 10 p.m. (PT) on April 27 as part of the celebrations for Corden’s farewell night. The next episode airs at 12:37 (PT) in the morning.
Speculations
When renowned celebrity rumour website DeuxMoi claimed 1D was scheduled to appear alongside Tom Cruise for Corden’s final episode, the rumour mill went into overdrive.
Observant fans quickly added to the rumour by noting that the boys looked to have freed their schedules for this to possibly occur.
Since Harry Styles won’t start his ‘Love On Tour’ again until May, he would have plenty of time to stop over and speak with Corden. Niall Horan, a judge on the US edition of The Voice and a former bandmate, is also free because he won’t be on tour until May.
Additionally, Louis Tomlinson postponed his ‘Faith in the Future’ tour’s Asian leg, which was scheduled to take place from April 17 to April 27. The artist announced the cancellations and offered refunds to everyone who purchased tickets, citing “unforeseen circumstances” as the cause.
This week, Liam Payne was spotted in London. Aside from a scheduled celebrity boxing battle versus Tommy Fury, it appears that he will have time to attend The Late Late Show. According to sources close to Liam, his solo career hasn’t continued to be as successful as he had anticipated it would, and his work has grown stagnant. Liam is keen to tour again with the boys.
Even Zayn Malik, who infamously quit the band in 2015, has now reappeared on social media after a protracted absence.
It is also said that sponsored posts are posted on One Direction’s official page on Instagram which added fuel to the rumour.

In the interviews after the hiatus, they say there is always a possibility of a reunion in the future.
Even after the hiatus, four of the members stay in touch. Niall Horan attended Harry Styles’ ‘Love On Tour’ months back. Liam Payne attended Louis Tomlinson’s ‘All of Those Voices’ documentary’s premier in 2024. Most recently, Horan gave rise to optimism last week when he disclosed in an interview with Esquire that he continues to ask his former colleagues for feedback on his unreleased work. This time, Horan added, Louis Tomlinson received it and gave him his honest assessment, which is always helpful. Niall Horan’s releasing his 3rd solo album ‘The Show’ on June 9th.
