In his speech to Parliament on the motion of appreciation for President Ram Nath Kovind’s speech at the commencement of the Budget session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed Congress.Ā
Some of PM Modi’s remarks were directed at the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which are in a direct election battle with the BJP in one or more of the five states of Uttar Pradesh (UP), Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur, and Goa.
PRIME MINISTER ATTACKS THE OPPOSITION PARTY AT RAJYA SABHAĀ
Prime Minister Narendra Modi referenced Jawaharlal Nehru once again in his speech in the Rajya Sabha, this time to counter the Opposition’s onslaught.Ā
On Tuesday, he claimed in the Rajya Sabha that Congress does not think beyond the family(Nehru and Gandhi’s). “Some speculate on what would have happened if Congress had not been present. Had Congress not existed, democracy would have been free of dynastic politics; India would have followed the path of swadeshi resolutions rather than viewing things through the eyes of a foreigner.
Democracy would not have been suffocated in 1975, and the blot of emergency would not have existed; the chasm of casteism and regionalism would not have been as deep; daughters would not have been burned in tandoors, and Kashmiri pandits would not have “he statedĀ
The Prime Minister attempted to bring Nehru into the debate over Goa’s liberation. WhereĀ
according to the Prime Minister, “This year marks the 60th anniversary of Goa’s independence. If similar efforts had been taken in the way Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel devised tactics for Junagadh and Hyderabad, Goa would not have fallen under foreign administration until so late.”Ā
Here are the Prime Ministerās speech highlights:Ā
The Prime Minister argued, citing media from the time, that “Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was only concerned with his public image on a global scale. He disregarded Goa and took no action when Goans were shot at because of his inherent interest. Because the then-Prime Minister refused to assist the Satyagrahis, the state remained under foreign rule for another 15 years.”Ā
According to PM Modi, Nehru insulted the Satyagrahis. He quoted Nehru’s speech on Goa from the Red Fort on August 15, 1955. Nehru had said, āLet no one mislead himself into thinking we won’t take military action.” There is no force in Goa. The folks on the inside want someone to create a situation like this and make a lot of noise so that we have no choice but to send the army. Those who wish to move ahead can do so without hesitation. But keep in mind that individuals who call themselves Satyagrahis must remember Satyagraha’s principles.”Ā
PM Modi criticized the arrogance displayed toward those who struggled for the country’s independence. The people of Goa will never forget Congress’s attitude.Ā Ā
The Prime Minister criticized Congress for its track record of restricting freedom of expression When “people do not agree to one familyā. He recalled, “Majrooh Sultanpuri and Prof Dharampal were both imprisoned for criticizing Nehru, and Kishore Kumar was barred from singing on the radio for refusing to bow to Indira Gandhi during the Emergency.”Ā
“Congress’s mentality appears to have been hijacked by urban Naxals, which is a troubling issue, and for that, they are now claiming that history is being changed,” PM Modi remarked, adding, “We are only improving their memoryĀ if history is only about a family for some people, we can’t do anything.”Ā
