Samsung unveiled the latest edition to their S series with the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra during the Samsung Galaxy unpacked launch event live-streamed on Wednesday.
The new additions to their flagship S series come with a 50MP Samsung GN5 sensor for the primary camera, a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and an improved night photography mode.
Samsung announced that every product launched during the event would be made using recycled ocean plastics to move towards a more sustainable world; the build is primarily made of glass for all three versions.
The Galaxy S22 is the smallest phone of the three, with the S22+ offering the same specs and features but a larger 6.6-inch display. The S22 Ultra’s design is reminiscent of their Galaxy Note line, which has not seen any releases since the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in August 2020.
The company has begun preorders on their official site, while the set date for release is February 25th.
So, what makes the S22 and S22+ differ?
The Galaxy S22 and S22+ come with the same chipset; it depends on the market whether users will get a 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or a 4nm Exynos 2200 chip. The 4nm processor is claimed to be the fastest chip on Galaxy so far.
Both phones come with the same camera arrangement: a 50MP 24mm wide camera with a 1/1.57″ imager as the primary camera, a 12MP 13mm ultrawide lens with super steady video, and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.
The prograde camera comes with AI autofocus, VDIS, Super HDR, and an in-app camera for your preferred social media. The front of the rear camera is built with super clear glass, which is specially engineered with an exclusive low-reflection nano-coating.
That means the camera automatically lessens lens flare from lights in the dark by up to 98%, as per the official website.
Samsung Galaxy S22 has a smaller, 3,700mAh battery; it charges at the maximum rate of 25W, while the S22+ has a larger battery with 4,500mAh, with faster 45W wired charging.
With a price tag starting from $799 around Rs. 59,800, and the Galaxy S22 Plus is priced at $999, around Rs. 74,800, the smartphones sit in the high-end range. The official colours announced for the two versions are phantom white, green, pink gold, and phantom black with an exclusive online offer including colours like violet, sky blue, and graphite.
Galaxy S22 Ultra Specs and features
The Galaxy S22 Ultra was revealed to be the first S series model with a built-in S pen. It boasts a sizeable 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a powerful120Hz refresh rate. Samsung claims a 240Hz touch sampling rate and 1,750 nits of peak brightness.
The S pen has updated features like reduced latency AI-based co-ordinate prediction technology and is IP68 water and dust resistant. Built with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on both the front and the back and an aluminum frame, ensuring durability would not be an issue for future users.
The most exciting part of the S22 Ultra was hinted to be the quad-camera set up, which features a 108MP wide-angle lens along with a 12MP ultrawide camera and two telephoto lenses of 10MP 3x to 30x zoom and 10MP periscope with 10x optical zoom.
The new features include auto framing, a night portrait mode, and newly added studio lighting effects. The model comes in Samsung’s signature graphite, sky blue, and red colors. The starting price for the model is $1,199 that is roughly Rs. 89,700 and has 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options.
