Uttar Pradesh completes its first phase of election on the 10th of February in 11 western UP states with 58 seats. The next phase is on the 14th of February in 9 districts with 55 seats.
In the second phase, the districts conducting elections are Saharanpur, Bijnor, Sambal, Bareilly, Rampur, Badaun, Amroha, Moradabad, Shahjahanpur. The political parties are gearing up for the campaigning of the second phase as two days are left before the 48 hours silent period rule given by the election commissioner.
Apart from the second phase in UP, Goa and Uttarakhand will also be going on polls for their assembly election on the same day. Both the states are currently under the rule of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP)
During a public rally in Uttarakhand’s Almora, Narendra Modi said,
“After 1st phase of polling in UP elections, it is clear that BJP will win with record numbers. More than us, the public isdetermined to make BJP win these polls. Voters never leave the side of those who’ve good intentions”
reported by ANI.
Ahead of the election, Ashish Mishra, son of Ajay Mishra Teni, Union Minister of state for home, got bail from Allahabad High court. He is accused of running a Thar jeep over four farmers and a journalist in Lakhimpur Kheri.
Farmers were protesting against the three controversial agricultural laws passed by the parliament, which had been repealed.
Anurag Thakur, the union minister from the BJP party, campaigned for his party candidates in Varanasi (grouped in 7th and the last phase, where the election will be conducted on 7th of March).
He said, “After every election post-2014, few Opposition parties always try to do something, where international links also join. Be it Rafale, CAA, or any other issue; the public never accepts such blames & trusts PM Modi & CM Yogi Adityanath…A few dynastical people (RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary) don’t cast their votes.
Their opinions on democracy show very clearly. Such parties have lost earlier also, they will lose in future again…They (Congress) talk about bikini/hijab, CAA/Rafale, but public never accepts them because they never talk about poor welfare.
They only know how to gather votes with politics of appeasement…You can write down, Akhilesh (SP chief) will lose from his seat”.
The voting turnout for the first phase, on average, was recorded at 60.17%, with the highest percentage recorded in Modinagar at 67.2%, as per the official figure shown. While in Gautam Buddh Nagar recorded at 56.73%, Ghaziabad stood at 54.77%, Loni by 60.5%, Muradnagar with 60.2%, and Sahibabad at 50.3%.
No report of violence has been recorded so far, although there has been an allegation of violation of election security protocol.
An abandoned Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) was found in a car without a number plate. The vehicle had a sticker of Zonal Magistrate- Kairana Constituency pasted on it.
