In Uttarakhand, there is a trend that no party repeats the government. Since the formation of the state, the political parties have been changed after every Vidhan Sabha Election. Here are the major seats for Legislative Assembly Elections, 2022 in Uttarakhand.
1. Khatima- Khatima is known to be the seat of Uttrakhand’s Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami. He has stood this year too. He is expecting to break the trend of CM losing next elections. His rivals in Khatima include Congress’s state-working president Bhuwan Chandra Kapri and S.S. Kelkar, Aam Aadmi Party’s former state president.
2. Haridwar- Haridwar is known to be the seat of Madan Kaushik, BJP’s state party Chief. His rivals are Sanjay Saini from the Aam Aadmi Party and Satpal Brahmachari of Congress.
3. Rishikesh- Rishikesh is the holy place considered the gateway to Chardham. BJP candidate contesting from Rishikesh is Premchand Aggarwal. From Congress, Jayant Chandra Ramola, and from AAP, the candidate is Raje Negi.
4. Srinagar- Srinagar is known for the ferocious battle between Congress’s state president Ganesh Godiyal and BJP’s Dhan Singh Rawat. This year, the same candidates have stood against each other. In 2012, Godiyal won from Srinagar and Dhan Singh Rawat won in 2017.
5. Haridwar Rural- This year, Swami Yatishwaranand, cabinet minister in Legislative Assembly, has contested from BJP against Anupama Rawat of Congress. Anupama Rawat is the daughter of former Chief Minister Harish Rawat. In 2017, Swami Yatishwaranand competed against Harish Rawat and won the seat.
6. Mussoorie– From Mussoorie, major contestants are Godavari Thapli of Congress and Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi of BJP. Recently, Kashmiri Traders were harassed in Mussoorie.
7. Narendra Nagar- Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal is contesting against Congress’s Om Gopal Rawat. Om Gopal Rawat has shifted to Congress from BJP recently.
8. Lalkuan- At Lalkuan, Harish Rawat of Congress is taking over Mohan Singh Bisht of BJP. Earlier, Congress had named Harish Rawat from Ramnagar, but later it changed the decision. Chandra Shekhar Pandey and Prithvipal Singh Rawat are candidates from AAP and BSP respectively.
9. Chakrata- Chakrata is the seat of the leader of opposition Pritam Singh. He is contesting against BJP’s Ramsharan Nautiyal, the father of Bollywood singer Jubin Nautiyal. Singh has won four times.
10. Nainital- Nainital seat is reserved for S.C. candidates. Sanjeev, Yashpal Arya’s son is contesting from Congress against BJP’s Sarita Arya this year. Sarita Arya recently left Congress and joined BJP. BSP has fielded Rajkamal Sonkar, and AAP candidate is Hem Chandra Arya.
11. Haldwani- Congress gave ticket to Sumit Hridayesh, who will be contesting against BJP’s Joginder Pal Singh Rautela, AAP’s Samit Tikkoo, and BSP’s Jitender Singh
12. Chaubattakhal- BJP’s state cabinet minister Satpal Maharaj is contesting against Congress’s Keshar Singh. BJP had occupied this seat since 2012.
13. Gangotri- AAP’s CM face Col (retd.) Ajay Kothiyal is contesting for 1st time in his political career from here. His rivals are Suresh Chauhan of BJP and Vijay Sajwan of INC.
14. Bajpur- Bajpur saw massive protests against three farm laws. Congress has given the ticket to Yashpal Arya, who will be contesting against BJP’s Rajesh Kumar and AAP’s Sunita Tamta Bajwa, wife of SKM leader Jagtam Singh Bajwa.
15. Tehri- There is a turncoat battle in Tehri. BJP has given the ticket to Kishor Upadhyay, former state Chief of Congress. On the other hand, Congress has fielded Dhan Singh Negi, who left BJP.Elections
16. Gadarpur- BJP has fielded education minister Arvind Pandey here. He is contesting against Congress’s Premanand Mahajan. In the history of Uttarakhand, no education minister has won the election. All the education ministers have lost in the past, say it be Tirath Singh Rawat in 2002, Narendra Bhandari in 2007, Matbar Singh Kandari in 2012, or Prasad Naithani in 2017.There was massive farmer protest in Gadarpur last year.
