Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab to vote, particularly youth and first-time voters, as voting for Assembly elections in Punjab and third phase polling in Uttar Pradesh began on Sunday. PM Modi tweeted, “The Punjab elections and the third phase of the UP elections are being held today.
I call upon all those voting today to do so in large numbers, particularly the youth as well as first-time voters.” Â
On Sunday, polling in 59 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh’s third phase began at 7 a.m., while polling in 117 constituencies in Punjab began at 8 a.m.Â
On Sunday, 59 assembly seats across 16 districts in Uttar Pradesh will go to the polls in the third phase of the election. There are 627 contestants in the race.
In the third round of the Assembly elections, almost 2.16 crore voters will exercise their right to vote at 25,794 voting places and 15,557 polling stations.Â
Meanwhile, in Punjab, the Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party alliance, and the Bharatiya Janata Party-former chief minister Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress party combination are all significant contenders.
