As part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav‘ celebrations, the Union government will hold exhibitions in 75 locations throughout the country to commemorate 75 years of India’s achievements in science and technology.
Union Minister of Tourism, Culture and Development of the North Eastern Region G Kishan Reddy and Minister of State (independent charge) for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh will launch the week-long ‘Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate’ in New Delhi on Tuesday.Â
The National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Culture, is collaborating with the Department of Science and Technology’s Vigyan Prasar to organise commemoration exhibitions titled “75 Years of Independence: India’s Achievements in Science and Technology.”Â
The Ministry of Culture will host a series of talks and demonstrations under the banner of Dhara – an Ode to Indian Knowledge System as part of the programme.
According to a release from the Ministry of Culture, the first event in the series will focus on “India’s contribution to mathematics over the years” and “will cover the mathematics of the ancient period – including geometry in ulbastras, Pigala’s Chandas-stra.”Â
According to the ministry statement, a special section will be dedicated to “classical period mathematics – including landmarks in Indian algebra, Jyotpatti, trigonometry, Indeterminate Equations in Indian Algebra, and Kerala School: Mdhava’s Infinite Series for, Calculus of Trigonometric Functions.”Â
Several other activities centered on ancient Indian economic theory, metallurgy, and agriculture will also be held. The show will be broadcast in Kashmiri, Dogri, Punjabi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, and Nepali, among other Indian languages. In addition, 75 documentaries about India’s scientific advancements will be exhibited.Â
The programmes are divided into four categories: from the annals of science and technology history, “milestones of modern science and technology,” “swadeshi paramparik discoveries and innovations,” and “transforming India.”Â
The ‘Transforming India’ theme will look at the road ahead for the next 25 years, with speeches from 75 distinguished scientists and technocrats on their visions for Indian science and technology as the country approaches its centennial year, according to an official release.Â
The ‘milestones of contemporary S&T’ topic will emphasize significant discoveries, developments, or inventions that have had a significant impact on world science or India’s growth story.Â
The topic of ‘Swadeshi paramparik inventions and innovations’ will feature 75 ideas or technologies that assisted achieve self-sufficiency by drawing on the reservoir of ancient knowledge systems, such as herbal remedies.Â
The science literary festival will bring together science writers, communicators, artists, poets, dramatists, street play artists, hands-on science demonstrations, journalists, students, and instructors from 75 different sites at the same time.Â
At DefExpo-2022 in Gujarat, India will display its achievements in defence R&D.
Singh stated during an ambassadors’ roundtable on the upcoming expo that India’s defence exports had increased by 334 percent in the previous five years and that the country currently exports military equipment to over 75 nations. Â
“Our export performance is a clear reflection of our defence goods’ quality and competitiveness,”
he added.Â
The defence minister expressed confidence that the show will gather all of the newest technology under one roof and give a plethora of chances to the aerospace and defence industry’s stakeholders.
