Voting for the phase 5 of the UP-assembly election will be on Sunday, 27th of February, from 7 in the morning. Â
692 candidates are contesting for 61 seats covering 12 districts with 2 crore voters. The voting will take place till 6 p.m. Â
The seats for the phase 5 will be conducted in Amethi, Raebareli, Sultanpur, Chitrakoot, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Prayagraj (Allahabad), Barabanki, Ayodhya, Bahraich, Shravasti, and Gonda.Â
Campaigning for the fifth phase came to an end at 6 p.m. on Friday, according to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) imposed by the Election Commission. Â
The State Chief Election Officer Ajay Kumar Shukla said necessary instructions had been given to the administrators to make proper arrangements so that the voter does not face any issues at the polling booth.Â
In the 2017 UP assembly election, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) had won 38 seats out of the 55 seats, the Samajwadi Party (SP) secured 15, while the congress retained 2 seats. Â
The parties seen as the leading contenders in the 2022 UP assembly election are the BJP, the Samajwadi Party, the Congress, and the Bahujan Samaj Party. Â
From the Sirathu assembly seats in the Kaushambi district, the Deputy Chief Minister, Keshav Prasad Maurya, is contesting. While Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Aradhana Mishra fighting from Rampur Khas seat of Pratapgarh district.Â
The ministers who are in the contesting are Ramapati Shastri from Mankapur, Rajendra Singh allies, Moti Singh from Patti of Pratapgarh district. From Allahabad West, Siddharth Nath is in the fray, and Nand Gopal Gupta is contesting from Allahabad South.Â
The campaigning, which came to an end on Friday, the BJP MLA from Allahabad South Nand Gopal Gupta is seen frying pakoras. He is contesting for the same seat again.Â
In campaign videos, the BJP MLA is seen frying pakodas, pooris, jalebis and making tea at local markets while his supporters shouted slogans praising him and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.Â
The BJP’s Allahabad South candidate is assured the Modi government would be able to counter the opposition’s criticism on unemployment this election season.
Mr. Gupta retaliated to the allegations made by the Samajwadi Party by pointing at the SP people saying that they are the ones who are unemployed.Â
The MLA said that thousands had been given jobs by the BJP government in UP, and no one had to “pay for jobs.” He denied his gesture of making snacks at the markets had anything to do with optics on employment.Â
The opposition parties state that the Modi government’s employment and industry-focused programmes such as Make in India and Start-Up India have lost the plot and spiralled down to making only pakodas.Â
Three seats from Allahabad- North, West, and South will go on polls in the fifth phase of the UP-assembly election. Votes will be counted on the 10th of March.
