As the G20 Summit eagerly draws near, residents of Delhi NCR are likely to receive an advisory urging them to stay indoors and only step out for essential services for 3 days in a row following security and traffic management protocols in the capital city which is about to host the event from 9-10 September.
Sources have revealed that the Delhi government is planning to declare September 8 as a holiday for all schools and offices in the national capital as the days of the summit fall on a weekend which will already result in less movement of people, ensuring a smooth travel for foreign delegates and dignitaries. In light of security concerns, advisories, if issues would request the public to avoid unnecessary travel during the time duration of the Summit to avoid potential disruptions. Most of the delegates are expected to arrive in New Delhi on the evening of September 8 while their departure is scheduled for either the evening of September 10 or the morning of September 11.
All Set With G20 Preparations?
India will be hosting the world’s most influential economic multilateral forum, the G20 Summit this September. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena formed 11 committees of Administrative Services Officers (IAS) to supervise the preparation of G20 summit. Each committee comprises of an IAS officer, a deputy commissioner of police, a district magistrate (DM), a deputy commission of MCD, a a secretary of NDMC and a chief engineer of DDA. With focus on cleanliness, hygiene and overall city upkeep, the committee reviews the needful.
As a part of the the beautification drive for G20 Summit, parks bigger than 1 acres adjoining key areas of Lajpat Nagar, Defence Colony, Green park, Hauz Khaz and Jangpura have been redeveloped. According to an official, sculptures and local decorative plants will be added to these parks. In Delhi’s GK-2, M Block market, a three dimensional, nine foot tall logo of G20 is set upright with G20 selfie booths being installed in another 13 allocated locations.
Russian Team Set to Visit for Assessment
President Vladimir Putin’s presence at the Summit is yet to be confirmed by Moscow closer to the dates of the Summit. Several teams from G20 member countries were set to visit the national capital in August to assess the arrangements and protocols arranged so far and discuss logistics with the Indian authorities. Putin, who skipped last year’s G20 summit held in Indonesia in the month of November, was set to visit India to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation( SCO) scheduled to be held in July, 2024, before India opted to hold the meeting virtually.
