President Zelensky has appealed to other countries to follow the USA’s example of banning imports from Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reacted with praise to US President Joe Biden‘s decision to ban imports of oil, gas and energy from Russia as a definitive symbol of disapproval of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Praising the US decision, President Zelensky agreed with US President Biden that this move would prove detrimental to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “war machine”.
Zelensky posted on Twitter,
“Thankful for US and @POTUS personal leadership in striking in the heart of Putin’s war machine and banning oil, gas, and coal from US market. Encourage other countries and leaders to follow.”
US President Joe Biden’s announcement banning Russian import of crude oil into the USA
Joe Biden addressed a press conference where he notified the world about the latest sanctions that the United States has decided to adopt against Russia.
Biden said,
“Today, I am announcing that the US is targeting the main artery of Russia’s economy. We are banning all imports of Russian oil, gas, and energy. That means that Russian oil will no longer be acceptable at US ports. The American people will deal another powerful blow at Putin’s war machine.”
Later, Biden also took to Twitter to post,
“This much is already clear: Ukraine will never be a victory for Putin. Putin may be able to take a city – but he will never be able to hold the country.”
With Biden’s announcement of these new sanctions, gas rates in the United States have recorded a skyrocketed high of $4.17 gallon. This is the highest gas price recorded in the USA since the depression of 2008.
Russia has been involved in an ongoing invasion since February 24 in Ukraine’s major cities which it has termed as a “special military operation”.
Russia’s move has influenced major western nations like the United States to declare a range of sanctions against Russia.
