Hyderabad is the next silicon valley and rising as an ideal destination for tech giants of the world to set up data centers. And Microsoft announced to set up its fourth data center region in Hyderabad. In addition to the ones already in existence at Mumbai, Chennai, and Pune.
Anant Maheshwari, the president, of Microsoft India, told ET that the fourth data center would facilitate the company to meet the growing demand for public cloud in India which had been accelerated in the pandemic. It is expected that Microsoft’s fourth data center will become part of the world’s largest cloud infrastructure.
Information Technology and Industries Minister, K.T. Rama Rao said that Microsoft company will be investing Rs.15,000 crore over the next 15 years for the set up of this data center region in Hyderabad which is spread across three sites Chandanvelly, Ellikatta, and Kottur.
He also confirmed that this investment become the second-largest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the IT segment in Telangana after Amazon Web Services. And also expected to be largest in India.
A Microsoft data center region makes available a competitive benefit to India’s digital economy and is a long-term investment in our country’s potential. The investment in skilling will empower India’s workforce and organizations to achieve more today and into the future.
The cloud is transforming every industry and sector. It will also support new entrepreneurial opportunities in India and allow them to innovate with Microsoft Cloud services, help in job creation across IT sectors, facilities management, data, and network security, network engineering, and much more.
According to research firm IDC, Microsoft data centers in India contributed $9.5 billion in revenue to the economy between 2016 and 2020, said Microsoft. The digital Indian economy could reach up to $1 trillion by 2025.
The new data center will present the complete Microsoft portfolio across the cloud, data solutions, AI, productivity tools, and customer relationship management with highly developed data security, for enterprises, start-ups, developers, education, and government institutions.
Indian data center market
Most of the data centers sites are concerned in four cities like Bangalore, Mumbai Delhi, and Chennai. The nation presently homes more than 100 data centers and all the existing data centers operated by locally and large tech companies. Because the data center market itself continues to grow remarkably.
Fortuitously, Hyderabad is considered home to Microsoft’s largest investment in India. After information technology, pharmaceuticals, and Life Sciences, Hyderabad is being considered a safe and sound destination for data centers, consequently several tech giants lining up to launch these facilities here.
Microsoft was already partnering with the Telangana government to speed up the adoption of cloud, IoT, cybersecurity solutions, and Artificial intelligence for governance. This new data center will play a key role in digitizing Telangana. All expenditure needs of Telangana will be met by Hyderabad. Over 3,000 jobs will be created directly with Microsoft’s project.
