Kerala Students Union (KSU) on Wednesday took out to the streets to protest against the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) after their attack on Tuesday on the former’s leaders. KSU protested seeking the arrest of the SFI activists which turned violent after they clashed with the police.
On Tuesday, during a violent clash between SFI and KSU, the SFI activists attacked KSU leaders and even women leaders which triggered the KSU’s march to the state assembly. At Martyr’s Column, the police had put barricades to stop the march but the activists tried to break the barricades that led to spurted violence

The KSU activists also destroyed the flex boards of the ruling party, CPM and the Government. According to the Times of India report, they even tore the flex boards containing CM’s picture. Adding up to this, the activists were also involved in a heated argument with the Police.
Hence the police used water cannons to disperse the protesters. Nevertheless, the students started throwing stones at the police. To disperse the crowd and to stop the violent clash, the police had resorted to the lathi charge.
Later, the Youth Congress State President and MLA Shafi Parambil and KSU State President KM Abhijith arrived at the spot and placated the angry protesters.
Attack on KSU President, Safna Yakub
On March 15, Tuesday evening, SFI activist allegedly attacked the KSU unit President, Safna Yakub over the celebration of the election victory inside the campus of Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram.
During the Tuesday clash, three KSU members and an SFI activist were injured in the conflict. All of the injured people were admitted to the medical college hospital. The tension between the two student groups flared up when KSU secured the vice-chairperson seat, although SFI won the union election.
According to the TNIE report, congress president and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi condemned the alleged SFI’s attack on the KSU workers and urged the state government to take action against the SFI.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Hibi Eden in the Lok Sabha demanded the ban of SFI. Yesterday, Eden tweeted, “@cpimspeak encourages its student leaders to behave like goondas inside colleges and commit heinous crimes against fellow students. Urging intervention from the Central Govt in this matter.”
