On Sunday, for the third match of IPL 2022, Punjab Kings and Royal Challangers Bangalore met in the Dr. D.Y Patil Sports Academy stadium in Navi Mumbai.
After a thrilling match between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings and Royal Challangers Bangalore met for the second match of the day on Sunday evening in Mumbai.
Royal Challangers Bangalore’s innings
PBKS won the toss and opted to bowl. They took the first wicket at the end of the seventh over with RCB at 50 runs. RCB’s new captain and addition this year, Faf du Plessis smashed a massive 88 runs for 57 balls.
In his innings, he rained 7 sixes and 3 fours with a strike rate of 154.39. Du Plessis innings came to an end in 17.1 overs due to the joint effort of Arshdeep Singh’s bowling and Shahrukh Khan’s impressive catch.
Former captain Virat Kohli and new wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik took responsibility to achieve a total of 205 for the fall of two wickets. Virat Kohli end his innings not out for 41 runs in 29 balls and Karthik also remained not out at 32 runs in 14 balls. At the end of their innings, RCB set an impressive chase of 206 runs for PBKS.
Punjab Kings’ innings
Punjab’s new captain Mayank Agarwal and new addition Shikhar Dhawan opened their innings. With Punjab at 71, Hasaranga’s bowling took the first wicket of the opponents’ captain for RCB with Shahbaz Ahmed taking the catch successfully at 7.1 overs. Opener Shikhar Dhawan also got out after a few overs by Harshal Patel’s bowling getting 43 runs out of 29 balls.
Rajapaksa and Livingstone took the team to a total of 139 for the fall of two wickets by the end of 13 overs. Rajapaksa’s aggressive innings came to an end when Md.
Siraj picked his wicket. Rajapaksa secured 44 runs out of 22 balls. Siraj picked up Raj Bawa’s wicket in the next ball give him a chance at hat trick but missed when he bowled the next ball wide.
Raj Bawa from the U-19 Indian team is one of the newest addition to IPL this year. At 14.5 overs, after fall of Livingstone’s wicket from Akashdeep’s bowling and Rawat’s catch, Shahrukh Khan and the Jamaican Odean Smith took charge to take PBKS to victory.
Khan remained not out at 24 out of 20 balls while Odean Smith took the opportunity to smash 20 out of 8 balls (3 sixes, 1 four) remain not out after his near dismissal.
Punjab Kings won the match by 5 wickets with 6 balls left. Odean Smith was declared the player of the match.
