Dinesh Karthik’s unbeaten knock of 44 not out against Rajasthan Royals led Royal Challengers to win – Karthik says, “I am not done yet”.
Match Summary
RR: 169/3 (20 overs)
RCB 173/6 (19.1 overs)
Match 13 of IPL 2022, Rajasthan Royals, currently the table toppers faced Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday evening at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Dinesh Karthik, who is the Player of the Match, led Royal Challengers to their second win in the season by 4 wickets and 5 balls to spare.
RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first. With an early wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal gave RCB a kick start, but who can predict the future? The moment RCB gave second chance by missing the catch of RR opener Jos Buttler, that moment Buttler changed the game for RR and helped the team post a total of 169 with his unbeaten 70 off 47.
Devdutt Padikkal (37 off 29) and Shimron Hetmyer (42 off 31) supported Buttler in the middle. Yuzvendra Chahal had the best bowling figure in the team as he took two wickets by giving 15 runs in four overs with a Virat Kohli run-out.
Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers is once again back in its old batting form. From good top-order start to a fighting middle-order finisher, RCB is leading good in the game. With Faf’s (29 off 20) and Anuj Rawat’s (26 off 25), RCB began good in the game.
In the middle, Shahbaz Ahmed (45 off 26) and Dinesh Karthik (44 off 23), not only balanced the run chase after early fall of wickets in between, but also helped the team finish the game to their side with a winning six by Harshal Patel.
Ahmed has consecutively played match winning knocks along with Karthik helping in finishing the game. The questions of wrong investment on Wanindu Hasaranga and Karthik that kept floating, has certainly changed into a dependable all-rounding investment that is benefitting RCB in the game.
“I think I made a conscious effort this year to do justice to myself because the last year, I felt I could have done better. The way I trained myself this time was much better. I am making a conscious effort to tell myself that I am not done yet,” said Karthik during post-match presentation.
Harsha Bhogle took twitter to praise DK’s spirit towards the game:
After Ahmed and DK’s maneuvering efforts towards the game, RCB march onwards and upwards. Both the teams have currently secured four points in their bag, with RR still topping the table, whereas RCB is at sixth position after yesterday’s game.
The Challengers await Glenn Maxwell’s return in the game from next match. RCB will face Mumbai Indians, who are currently at the last third spot in the points table and are looking forward to their first win of the season.
The currently in-form RCB is confident to increase the points in the first half of the league and will come out strong against the five times champion MI. However, Rohit Sharma-led MI stand eye on this win to lead ahead in the game from here. RCB vs MI is scheduled on Saturday evening at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
