Uber Technologies Inc.’s customers will shortly be able to book long-distance travel on trains, flights, hotels and buses. Uber won’t provide the travel service itself, but will team up with third-party booking agencies to make easy the sale of tickets. Uber will allow customers to book them through its app ‘Super App’ following software integrations with platforms that sell tickets.
A pilot project being launched in the U.K because it is one of Uber’s biggest markets outside North America. Uber users in the U.K. will be able to book intercity rail and coach tickets via superapp. The pilot project could be spread out to other nations at a later date if it goes well.
Uber’s regional general manager of U.K, Jamie Heywood said, the aim of Uber’s superapp is to create a seamless door-to-door travel experience to its customers and one-stop-shop for national and international travelers.
The customers of Uber are booking cars, bikes, scooter on the Uber app from many years, therefore adding up trains, flights and hotels is a normal progression, he said. After this year the company aim to integrate flights, and in the future hotels, by integrating leading partners into the Uber superapp, he added.
But Uber will not sell tickets itself, it is associating with platforms and integrating their APIs. While Uber didn’t reveal which ticketing platforms it will partner with. The integrations will assist to enhance superapp usage among its customers in the U.K, who also have the choice of using apps like Bolt and Free Now.
Everybody like the freedom to make travel planning in a simple and suitable way, which is why Uber plan to make a one-stop shop for all your travel needs. The American company Uber, based in San Francisco and at present working in 85 countries of the world is planning on developing a “Super-App” with the concept of alliances with other companies and software integration that will include car rental, flights, rail operators, inter-city buses, and even hotels.
