India’s policy group for tourism and hospitality, FAITH, signed a deal with the Bengal State government. The Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism & Hospitality (FAITH) is made up of all the national tourism and hospitality groups in India.Â
The Memorandum of Understanding signed on April 21 at the BGBS event aims to develop and identify unexplored travel destinations. They are also planning on promoting the already existing destinations in Bengal tourism.Â
There’s a plan to invest in and set up two properties in North Bengal. The chairman, S P Jain, of Pride Hotels and Resorts, is working on using Bengal as a gateway and thereby expanding their business in the Northeast.Â
At the closing ceremony of BGBS, Rajiv Mehra, the FAITH secretary, said during the closing ceremony that the federation plans to form a task force. In the brainstorming meeting of this task force, DMs from a number of states will be participating.Â
There are new plans, according to Mamata Banerjee, to work to expand the Bagdogra Airport. Also, they are working towards bringing new airports as well as turning Bagdogra and Andal airports into international ones.Â
Bengal tourism will also get enhanced river cruising experiences. Two new ships will be available to cruise the Hooghly River. These cruise trips will start from Kolkata and take the tourists to other places in Bengal as well as Bangladesh, Varanasi, and Patna. These ships, Nouka Vilas and Ganga Vilas, will cut the usage of diesel and will use sustainable energy.Â
