Asian Games 2022 will be held in Hangzhou, China on 10th September 2022 which will go on till 25th September. With COVID straining again, the host country is pacing up its preparations for COVID prevention and trying to set up the precautionary norms.
While on one hand, other sports tournaments happening this year like World Cups, World Championships and others are being held, Asiad is taking no risk. The organizers are planning to have a “closed-loop” system just like the one imposed during the Beijing Winter Olympics.
It was previously speculated that the sports event will be postponed due to the fear of a new COVID wave. But, the Indian Olympic Committee (IOC) has recently announced that they have got a mail from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) saying that the event will not be postponed.
Talking about the same IOC president Narinder Batra said “We have intimation from Olympic Council of Asia, received four-five days ago, that the Asian Games 2022 are not being postponed and going ahead as scheduled,”
According to Hangzhou’s Asian Games website, the successful rehearsal of the closed-loop system took place during China’s National Jujitsu Championships which will also double up as the test event for Asian Games.
A closed-loop system is where the local residents of the host country/city will not be allowed from visiting the athletes and the officials make sure the games take place without hindering China’s zero COVID policy.
Some of the rules laid down for the closed-loop system are similar to the ones enforced during the Tokyo Olympics last year.
