Cheteshwar Pujara’s has been on fire in the current County Championship 2022. The veteran batsman was withdrawn from India’s Test squad for the two-match home series against Sri Lanka earlier this year due to poor batting performances in the previous 12 months.
He had a terrible Ranji Trophy by his own standards after crashing out in the group stages, as Saurashtra failed to retain their title.
Cheteshwar Bang an amazing six
Sussex were reduced to 6/2 in the second innings, with Shaheen Afridi dismissing opener Ali Orr for a duck with the new ball in hand. To deceive the seasoned red-ball batsman, the tall speedster came roaring in on the third delivery of the third over and bowled a short delivery way outside the off-stump.
Despite this, Pujara countered with an uppercut that sailed far over the off-side boundary and into the bleachers for a six.
In the first two innings, the senior batter had racked up 16 runs. In terms of the second innings, he and Tom Alsop have put on an unbroken 68-run third-wicket stand. While Alsop is still alive at 29, Pujara is still unbeaten on 35 as Sussex extend their lead to 110 runs.
Cheteshwar Pujara was in excellent form heading into this match, having scored 531 runs in five innings at an astounding average of 132.75. In three matches, he has two double centuries and a century. As Sussex look for their first win of the season, the Test specialist will be looking for another outstanding effort.
