Delhi water Minister, Satyendra Jain, said that the Yamuna River had dried up as the Haryana government was withholding water. In his defence Haryana CM, Manohar Lal Khattar, said that Delhi has been given water as per its share i.e., 1050 cusecs.
Satyendra Jain has issued a statement quoting the Wazirabad Barrage as the most important water sources for north and West Delhi. And as the Yamuna’s water was withheld by the Haryana government it has dried up. Due to this there is a lack of water supply to the water treatment plants in Delhi which has led to a decrease in the water production by 60 to 70 million gallons daily.
As per the statement by the government, the usual level of the Wazirabad Barrage required to maintain efficient water treatment was 674.5 feet, but it had dipped to a level of 669 feet. Delhi Jal Board, has been under pressure due to the complaints of the residents from several parts of north, west and Central Delhi.
Around 70% of the water supply requirement, of Delhi is fulfilled solely from Yamuna and its canals. The areas which are affected due to the delayed water supply are locations such a Civil Lines, Hindu Rao Hospital, Kamala Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Paharganj, Karol Bagh, old and new Rajendra Nagar, Patel Nagar, Baljeet Nagar, Indrapuri, stated the water Ministry of Delhi.
Haryana government has denied all the statement by the Delhi government, and has stated that, “The government is lying about water. And on the contrary, as Punjab is not giving Haryana share of water, and it has the governance of Aam Aadmi Party, Delhi CM should first get the water of Haryana share from Punjab”.
As per the Haryana government, Delhi government is doing politics on the water by presenting false figures.
A total of 610 million gallons of water a day is supplied to Delhi through the two canals of Yamuna. Also, the water supply of 253 million gallons a day is supplied to Delhi from Uttar Pradesh through the upper Ganga canal, and 90 million gallons a day is drawn from Ranney wells and tube wells installed across the city.
This is just a small incident that the nation is coming across, the real problem is that the nation and the world itself is facing a global water crisis. These are the impacts of the grown population and the modernization of the society that demand high supply of water, food, energy and goods increase.
Due to global warming, the maximum temperature on Tuesday was 41.1 degree Celsius that is a degree temperature above normal. To forecast expected that the temperature would increase to 45 degrees Celsius by Friday. That is why the water from the rivers are dried up and the level is dipped.
It is it true saying that, “The earth has enough for a man’s need but not for a man’s greed”. A number of crises like this that is water crisis, in the whole world is a consequence of the man’s deeds only. We all must remember that we are to be blamed for the 50-degree Celsius temperature and no one else. The water scarcity, the food scarcity, and scarcity of resources, in India and the world are the impacts of the wrongful activity of man. Man in this era of modernization, is devastating the nature and paving the way towards the destruction of the human survival itself.
As the mother nature has given us the birth, by destroying it, we are destroying ourselves. It’s never too late to take the action, and we all should unite now as it’s high time. If we don’t want to face adverse consequences, like the water crisis – the governments and people fighting over water, which is one of the resources and the most important one for human survival. Now we are facing the crisis, the scarcity of water itself which is prominent for our existence. The climate change, the Global Warming, and all the destruction to the environment is due to us only and we have to shoulder our responsibilities now, if we want to save ourself and our future.
