Kylian: Despite making a summer transfer request last year and allowing his PSG contract to expire when it wasn’t granted, Mbappé will stay with the Ligue 1 champion, snubbing Real Madrid.
With his hat-trick, Kylian Mbappe now has 28 league goals, becoming Ligue 1’s top scorer for the fourth consecutive season.
Kylian Mbappe is “extremely thrilled” to remain at Paris Saint-Germain until 2025. PSG announced he would reject Real Madrid until 2025.
On the other hand, PSG will begin the season without sports director Leonardo, who was fired late Saturday following Mbappe’s decision.
In the season’s final match, PSG defeated Metz 5-0 at Parc des Princes after Mbappe scored a hat-trick. He told fans: “I’m happy to be in Paris, in my hometown.”.
Standing next to PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi, Mbappe told the crowd that he hopes to continue doing what he likes most, winning football matches and trophies.
Kylian Mbappe’s hat-trick brought his league goal tally to 28. He concluded the season as Ligue 1’s top scorer for the fourth consecutive season.
His decision puts months of conjecture about the world’s sexiest football player.
Real Madrid had been after Mbappe for months and had reached an agreement on a transfer worth 150 million euros ($158 million).
Kylian Mbappe has made no secret of his ambition to play for Real. He will meet Liverpool in the Champions League final next weekend in Paris after winning their 35th La Liga title.
On the other hand, PSG has fought to keep hold of their most valuable asset, despite winning the French title for a record-equaling 10th time and infuriating their die-hard fans by exiting the Champions League in the last 16 against Real.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Leonardo, 52, was fired hours after Mbappe renewed his contract, confirming media claims.
The Brazilian, who has been in charge of PSG since 2019, paid the price following a dismal season in which the club fell to Real Madrid in the Champions League knockout rounds in March.
‘Insult to football’
On Saturday, the head of Spain’s La Liga, Javier Tebas, blasted PSG’s Qatari owners for using their substantial financial resources to persuade Mbappe to stay in France.
Tebas wrote, “The renewal of Kylian Mbappe by PSG is a great insult because it comes after the club has suffered losses of 700 million euros in recent seasons. Its payroll bill is over 600 million euros.”
The Spanish league said it would file an official protest against PSG’s activities with UEFA, the French tax and administrative authorities, and the European Union’s decision-making bodies.
Tebas also termed Khelaifi “a menace to European football” in his tweet.
Khelaifi serves on the UEFA Executive Committee and heads the critical European Club Association.
Mbappe will now line up alongside Neymar and Lionel Messi next season to aid PSG in their long-running pursuit of the Champions League, which they have yet to win.
Real Madrid fans were perplexed when the much-hyped deal fell through.
“I no longer want him to play for Real Madrid. It is not worthwhile. “AFP spoke with David Pulido, a 42-year-old Real devotee.
“Mbappe contributed on both sides. He wanted to go to Madrid at first, but now he stays at PSG for the money. Sorry, but I’m no longer interested in Mbappe. He’s a fantastic athlete. I used to like him, but not any longer.”
In August 2017, Mbappe joined PSG on a season-long loan from Monaco, which converted into a 180 million euro permanent transfer.
He has won four Ligue 1 championships with the club in the last five seasons and a championship in the Principality.
Mbappe scored in both legs of PSG’s Champions League loss to Real Madrid this season, but it was not enough to prevent PSG from losing 3-2 on aggregate.
He was voted France’s player of the year for the third time in four seasons last week, except in 2020, when there was no winner due to the pandemic.
He will play a significant role in France’s World Cup defence in November and December.
Luis Caceres, the head of the Real Madrid fan clubs, told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope: “Without Mbappe, Real Madrid has won 13 Champions Leagues. He will not be missed.”
