Heinrich Klaasen’s excellent knock of 81 steered the Proteas to an easy victory against India in the second T20 cricket match. With another win, South Africa took the lead to 2-0 in the five-match T20 cricket series. Â
Cuttack, Orissa: On Sunday, India battled against the Proteas in the second T20 cricket match with the hope to equal the series after their defeat in the first match.
Despite the efforts of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, who bagged four wickets, South Africa sailed past the target in 18.2 overs with ease. Winning by four wickets, South Africa leads the series 2-0.Â
An unsatisfactory batting effort:
Winning the toss, South Africa invited India to bat first on a slumpy pitch. A disciplined bowling attack led by Kagiso Rabada helped the Proteas in restricting the Indian side to a decent total of 148 for six wickets.
Ishan Kishan’s quick 34 runs and Shreyas Iyer’s 40 runs helped the team but failed to convert it to a big score.
Dinesh Karthik’s unbeaten 36-run partnership with Harshal Patel in the final overs steered India to a competitive target of 149.Â
Heinrich Klaasen shines, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar’s efforts in vain:
Chasing a decent total, the Proteas failed to get the desired start as they lost early wickets. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar struck thrice in the powerplay, rattled the top order, and helped India gain control over the match.
However, Heinrich Klaasen’s brilliant effort of 81-runs helped the Proteas reach the target with 10 balls to spare. David Miller played a supportive knock by scoring 20 runs and building a partnership with Klaasen.Â
For his match-winning knock of 81, Heinrich Klassen was awarded the Player of the match. Temba Bavuma, captain of South Africa said that the chase was a tricky one.
Rishabh Pant, the Indian captain, stated that the team was short of 10-15 runs. Further, he appreciated the efforts of the Indian bowlers who kept the game alive.
While India eyes the third T20 Cricket match on Tuesday, South Africa aims to seize the series with a 3-0 win.
