Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Karnataka ended on Tuesday with announcements and the inauguration of a series of development and infrastructure projects.

On Monday and Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bengaluru and Mysuru on his two-day visit to Karnataka. Inaugurating a series of infrastructure and development projects, PM Modi celebrated the 8th International Yoga Day(IYD) on 21 June in Mysuru. The development projects aimed at improving mobility in the cities to decongest traffic and help daily commuters.

Promising several railroad projects, the Prime Minister vowed to improve the connectivity and mobility of Bengaluru and laid the foundation for the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP). The BSRP will connect the city with its satellite towns and suburbs. The project estimated at Rs.15,700 crore, aims to cover a total route length of over 148km. Further, The Prime Minister also laid the stone for the redevelopment of Bengaluru Cantt., and Yesvantpur Junction railway station. The project is estimated to be developed at a cost of around Rs.500 crore and Rs.375 crore.
The Prime Minister set a 40-month deadline to decongest Bangalore traffic by completing the “double engine” model which was delayed by 40 years. Modi stated, “The suburban rail project will help increase the capacity of Bengaluru. If these projects were completed 40 years ago, pressure on Bengaluru would have been reduced. But, it is in my destiny to complete it.”
On Monday, the PM inaugurated the Centre for Brain Research (CBR) set up at Rs.280 crore at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) campus. He tweeted that the Centre will be at the forefront of research on how to manage brain-related disorders. The 832-bedded Bagchi Parthasarathy Multispecialty Hospital at the IISC was also inaugurated by the PM aiming at integrating medical, engineering, and science.
The new campus of Dr. B R Ambedkar School of Economics (BASE) University, Bengaluru, was also inaugurated during the program. Furthermore, The PMO said 150 “Technology Hubs” have been developed at Rs.4,600 crore to create a skilled workforce to support Industry 4.0.
In one of the highlights, the PM launched India’s first air-conditioned railway station – Sir M Visvesvaraya Railway Station at Baiyappanahalli developed at 315 crores. Among other railway projects, the PM also flagged off electric trains as part of the 100 percent electrification of the Konkan Railway Line. Several other road projects were inaugurated along with two new railway lines-Arsikere to Tumkuru and Yelahanka to Penukonda.
Modi hailed the city as a city of dreams with ample opportunities for the youth of the nation. The entrepreneurship success in Bengaluru is a true reflection of Atma Nirbhar Bharat, he added.
Mysuru and Modi’s promises:
The Maharaja College grounds, Mysuru, witnessed a series of programs, including the 8th International Yoga Day celebrations. Several railway projects were launched, including the coaching terminal for sub-urban traffic at Nagenahalli Railway Station. PM Modi also launched the Centre of Excellence for persons with communication disorders at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH).
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, PM Modi addressed a mass yoga event at the Mysuru Palace Grounds. “Yoga brings peace to our universe”, PM Modi said as thousands joined him in the mass demonstration. Further, the Yoga program at Mysuru was also part of the novel program, Guardian Yoga Ring, a collaborative exercise between 79 countries and United Nations organizations. The Indian Missions abroad were also a part of this to illustrate yoga’s unifying power that surpasses national boundaries.
