The AEW and NJPW Forbidden Door event will now include three new bouts, as previously announced in AEW: Dynamite.
A match between Will Ospreay and Orange Cassidy, in which Ospreay will attempt to defend his IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship, has been added to Forbidden Door. This week’s episode of Dynamite included a post-match angle in which Cassidy engaged in a confrontation with Ospreay. This angle served to build up the bout.
Ospreay won the IWGP US championship earlier this month at the Dominion event, beating the previous champion Sanada to claim the vacant belt. Former WWE superstar Juice Robinson was stripped of the championship after failing to defend it at Dominion. As a result, despite the fact that Ospreay is the champion, he still possesses the physical belt.
Ospreay, the ruler of the United Empire, has also held the World Heavyweight, Junior Heavyweight, and NEVER Openweight belts in NJPW. He is also the current RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion and a former ROH World Television Champion.
Aside from that, the Englishman has achieved victory in major events such as the Best of the Super Juniors, the New Japan Cup, and the Super Strong Style. The worldwide superstar may be a new face to AEW fans, having just recently made his debut in trios action with Aussie Open versus FTR and Trent Beretta.
Ospreay won his first singles match in the promotion this week on AEW Dynamite. He fought Dax Harwood before facing Orange Cassidy, his Forbidden Door opponent.
In other news, it was revealed that Thunder Rosa would defend the AEW Women’s World Championship against Toni Storm on June 26 in Chicago. On this week’s episode of Dynamite, Storm prevailed over the previous champion Britt Baker, and she then engaged in a stare-down with Rosa for the second week in a row. After some time had passed, the match was revealed to the audience in an official capacity.
In addition, a three-on-three bout will take place at Forbidden Door between Eddie Kingston, Wheeler Yuta, Shota Umino, and their opponents Chris Jericho, Minoru Suzuki, and Sammy Guevara. During their head-to-head encounter on Dynamite, Forbidden Door competitors Jon Moxley and Hiroshi Tanahashi made the announcement about the upcoming fight between the two of them.
