Toyota said on Thursday that after the safety check they find that the bolt in the wheel have an issue.
The issue was that there is a possibility that the bolt in the wheel would come loose during sharp turns or sudden braking.
Toyota is the world’s largest automaker in terms of sales. It is quite a shock to them that their first-ever mass-produced EV is going to be recalled. It should be noted that no accident was reported.
Toyota submitted the request for recall to Japan’s transportation ministry for the recall of their vehicles.
The company reported that out of 2700 EV that has been recalled, 2200 were going to Europe, 260 to the United States, 10 to Canada, and 110 to Japan.
The same issue of wheel bolts has also made Subaru Corp to also recall its Solterra, developed by Toyota. Subaru Corp is recalling 2600 units of Solterra, Subaru’s first electric vehicle.
The regulator is to stop using vehicles until a permanent repair measure is found.
The vehicles recalled from Japan didn’t even deliver to customers. The vehicles were meant to be used for test drives and display purposes.
The Toyota spokesperson told reporters that not all vehicles are facing the problems but they want to make sure nothing bad will happen. But they didn’t mention the number of EVs they have built overall.
For Subaru, most of the vehicles were meant for dealers and none of the vehicles were delivered to the customers in the US.
Toyota has been late to the jump to electric vehicles and they have certainly faced some criticism for that. EVs market is growing fast and now that even Toyota has shifted to EVs despite being a small hiccup.
