Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival in Germany for the G7 summit was marked by a welcome Bavarian band at the Munich airport, such a gesture by the state was last made in 2015 for the then US president Barack Obama. The Minister-President of Bavaria later hosted a dinner for all world leaders, designating PM Modi as the guest of honor status, making him the only leader speaking on the occasion.
Modi on Sunday arrived in Germany on a two-day visit during which he will attend the G7 summit and discuss issues like energy, food security, counter-terrorism, environment and democracy with the leaders of the powerful bloc and its partner countries. Modi is attending the event following an invitation by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Modi addresses Indians in Munich
While addressing the Indian diaspora in Munich, Germany, during a two-day G7 visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed India for its unique and colorful democracy saying, “Today, we can proudly claim that India is the mother of democracy… ” asserting that “The diversity of culture, clothes, food, music and traditions makes our democracy lively. India has shown that democracy can deliver, has delivered and will continue to deliver,” he added.
During his speech, he highlighted that “June 26 is also known as the day when India’s democracy, that is embedded in the heart of every Indian, was trampled and suppressed 47 years ago. Emergency was a black spot on the vibrant history of India’s democracy.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the emergency imposed 47 years ago is a black spot on India’s vibrant democracy and praised the country’s democratic values. Addressing the Indian diaspora during a massive event at the Audi Dome indoor arena here, he said that democracy is in the blood of every Indian.
“47 years ago, an attempt was made to hold that democracy hostage and crush it. The emergency was a black spot on India’s vibrant democracy,” Modi targeted the Congress Party “Us Indians feel proud of our democracy wherever we live. Every Indian can say with pride that India is the mother of democracy,” Modi said. The Emergency refers to the state of emergency announced across India by the then prime minister Indira Gandhi on June 25, 1975. It was lifted on March 21, 1977.
The Prime Minister is on a 2-day visit to Germany during which he will attend the G7 summit and discuss issues like energy, food security, democracy, counter-terrorism and environmental concerns with the leaders of the powerful bloc and its partner countries. President Joe Biden said on Sunday that the Group of Seven countries is set to announce a ban on Russian gold imports amid the Russian- Ukraine War.
PM Modi in a recent statement regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and stressed that diplomatic talks are the only solution to resolve the dispute, solidifying India’s belief there will be no winners in the Russia-Ukraine conflict unless peace is prioritized.
