It follows a milestone ruling by the US Supreme Court that repealed the constitutional right to abortion. The judgment anticipated for individual states to ban the procedure.
Firms like Amazon had already announced to pay travel expenses for abortions, as millions of US women face a restricted approach. Now companies which include Disney, JP Morgan, and Facebook owner Meta have announced similar moves.
But since the ruling, a growing number of firms have confirmed they will cover travel costs through their health insurance plans for the staff member who leaves their home state to get an abortion.
According to Disney, it had told its employees that it accepted the impact of the Supreme Court ruling and remained engaged to give them full access to affordable healthcare, which includes family planning and reproductive care, no matter where they reside.
Disney employs around 80,000 people at its resort in Florida where it was already signed into law a ban on abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy by the governor which is scheduled to function on 1st July.
Banking firm JP Morgan even informed its US employees it would cover all the expenses of travel for medical services which include “legal abortions”.
Social Media company Meta stated that it planned to repay the travel expenses where allowed by law, for the employees who will need them to acquire out-of-state health care.
