On Tuesday evening, in a tragic accident, two cranes collapsed resulting in the death of four people including two labor’s, a crane operator and a car driver have passed away in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra.
The laborers were engaged in construction work on the Taloja phase 2 project of the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO).
Two tower cranes on top of the housing project were used to transport construction material. And it suddenly collapsed from the fourteenth floor, and fell on these men. All of them collapsed and died. According to reports, two other men are in critical condition and are undergoing treatment at the MGM hospital, Kalamboli.Â
“The entire machinery came down along with the crane operator and landed upon the laborers as well as a parked car with driver seated inside. The bodies were completely crushed. But identifying the remains was a challenge, “ an official said.
The crane had some defects which needed repair, according to preliminary Taloja police investigation findings. Construction sites must be checked regularly for the workers to have a safe work place. Because of some negligence these people lost their lives.
The PRO department of CIDCO ordered the Navi Mumbai contractor to pay compensation of Rs. 7 lakhs to the families of the deceased. Also to pay Rs. 2 lakhs to the injured, in addition to the contractor covering all medical costs.Â
