The online vacation rental company, Airbnb has permanently banned partying and events in their listed places. This measure was taken after they put a temporary ban on all parties and events globally during the pandemic. They are now codifying the ban as their policy as this has proven effective.
There has been a 44% drop of partying in their listed properties.Â
Airbnb has suspended more than 6,000 people for violating the ban last year. The other reasons to put up this ban were many complaints and some major issues like a fatal shooting at a party in a house in California in 2019. The temporary ban in 2020 was due to the closing and limitations of clubs and bars.
The new norm for Airbnb clientsÂ
This ban will further help them to control the rowdiness that happens in their properties according to the complaints they receive.Â
The company said that at first it was just a public health measure but over time it became a bedrock policy of the company. In the past, the company gave the property owners the choice to allow parties according to their best judgment. But rules were strenghten as large events as well as house parties were advertised on social media. As the pandemic hit, nightlife venues shut down and as a result Airbnb properties became the venues which immediately became an issue.Â
As the new policy comes to life, Airbnb will lift the 16 person cap rule at their properties as it is now fine to have larger and bigger groups. The people who will break the rule will face consequences like account suspension to complete removal from the website.Â
